My brother's 2011 750 just had a fatal engine problem. The needed new engine would be over $20K. The car will only sell for about $12K. He got $850 from a wrecker. Not bad on a $120K car. Prices in CD .......

I've rewired a Linn Ittok and a Rega RB300 with Discovery Cable and got very good results. Sound was more detailed with better bass and smoother at the same time. Quite good for an inexpensive wire an .......

Have you tried them without the black rubber rolls? The down firing woofer would seem to be blocked by the covers. That won't change the issue with no bass when seated though, that is strictly room an .......

I agree. I first was made aware of the EL84 as a driver by an article by Thorsten Loesch. I just copied his version with a 300B and it absolutely is a great driver. It helps that I've got lots of them .......

If your 604s were 8Gs they would have the same connectors as the JBLs. Altec went with the same connector type on most of their speakers in the 70s. One leg of your spades might fit in the spring conn .......

Another way to look at it: Why bother with horns if they're only 91dB? Seems pointless considering most systems with mids and highs horn loaded will approach 98dB with many over 100dB. That will solve .......

The page shows an Altec 421-8LF which is a 16" frame musical instrument speaker.It also indicates a FR of 50 to 1500Hz but there is no way that will happen with that cabinet at anything resembling fla .......

I have no idea about the effect of multi heavy guage wire but I have experimented with soldering connections and I found that every mechanical connection I replaced with continuous direct wiring and s .......

Hi Jeff. How do you connect that much wire to the small connector opening on the 515B? It would be even more difficcult on newer Altec drivers with the pushbutton spring connectors. .......

Not really. One of the sockets is larger than the other.You need the plugs or just replace the existing sockets. It's not a collectors item so you won't devalue it by changing them. I got one of thos .......

You can now get the RPM Calculator app for Android. The video on play store shows an iPhone on a Linn table running at 34.2 rpm. That is very similar to my old LP12. .......

You're using a 45 so we can safely assume you have hi-eff speakers. My experience with lowthers, altec 604s and model 19s as well as various coral, goodmans etc is that regardless of the efficiency nu .......

If it's a stereo amp, you could use a single 6bx7 in place of two 6em7s. It has similar op points to the low side of the 6em7 but two triodes in one bottle. If they're mono amps maybe not. ::: TOPIC: .......

BL=(2*Pi*Fs*Mms*Re/Qes)^1/2 That last missing part of the equation would alter your BL product of 22 considerably. Also, Altec's spec sheet shows a BL of 16 for the 416-8B, which is arguably the best .......

Can you add CD/horn compensation with the DSP? A straight crossover won't sound correct. I have models 19s as well and also have a number of Altec 416 variants(8B, 8Z, 8C, 421s reconed with 416 cones, .......

GPA can recharge the magnets without doing a recone. Why do you think they need recharging? In home use they likely won't see the kind of abuse that would discharge the magnets unless you have dropped .......

I've had a number of 604 variants and even the oldest (mid 1960s) didn't require re-gooping. The reason it seems dry is that it's sticky and it picks up a coating of dust. I have never seen one that .......

Your Spendors are actually pretty good with SE amps. You should try them with a 300B amp before doing mods on a good small speaker. .......

Or, a Liter is 1000 cubic centimeters which is even easier to use than inches. 10cm x 10cm x 10cm = 1L or 1000 cubic centimeters. The decimal and the metric systems are easier to use than the imperial .......
