I had a carpet that was sea green. But it looked a lot better than that chassis. Can you donate it to someone who is poor and has no taste in audio? I think that would be the best way to get rid of it .......

The "extra holes" in the chassis have been repurposed as "infinite impedance traps" for eddy currents that might be circulating in the chassis. You shouldn't worry about the eddy current in the chassi .......

Of all the names you mention, none make transformer cores, but you can find many good transformer core manufacturers in the US of course. About the ganja and beer I'm not sure, I bet both are better .......

Edcor dos not say how they measure so you realy don't know what there datasheets mean. This is also true for Magnequest. They don't give real measurements with a tube for instance (or with a specefic .......

There is nothing wrong with the Magnequest if it was a cheaper transformer (maybe a little more expensive than an Edcore). Or there is nothing wrong with an expensive amplifier if they also used a spe .......

I was young at the start of the CD player and it was a disaster for real audio. I could tell every digital recording from the good analog ones. Only many, many years later came better digital recordin .......

Those EI chokes are not very effective for higher frequencies. I always use my own amorphouse chokes or in line stages nanocrystalline cores with hf-techniques windings. .......

No Tre. You only need low resistance in the circuit. Follow Ohm's law and do the math. After all 100V/1 Ohm = 100A but also 1V/0,01 Ohm= 100A .......

It's not only the current (output impedance) you need. Also how much amplification you want. Btw the 10 or 801a is not better and directly heated has it's drawbacks .......

The plate resistance of the 6j5 is to high. With a mu of 77 and a miller capacity of 2,7pF the D3A is also less interesting You need a linear tube with a low plate resistance and low capacity between .......

In my opinion 1 Ohm should be more then enough for a good quality transformer. If there are problems with your amplifier it could mean, 1) your amplifier is not a very good design (not stable enough) .......

This is a SE transformer 3500 Ohm tested with a EL34 in triode mode. Kathode bias and the low frequencie is a bit limited by the electrolitic capacitor. Would be nice to have a 10dB NF and see what .......

The fix is not drive the tube into grid current. Another fix could be the use of a driver tube with a lower output impedance. Some people use a grid choke but i am not a fan of this, it's delivers oth .......

Even the tank circuit resonance frequency can be calculated. Of course you don't know the stray inductance exactly but the L of a wire can be calculated if you know how long the wire is. .......

Tre, the 5842 is not compatable with the 6s45. It's compatable with the ec8010*. I never used on my ec8010 on all grid inputs a resistor and never so large value (10k). I just used 1x a 220 Ohm and it .......

This can of course make a difference. What also makes a difference is the actual value of the inductance (H) at a given current. Also the actual ripple voltage the choke can handle makes a difference. .......

The nice thing about a Fender is that is a very clean amplifier, jazz player like thise amps. A SE amplfier can me more clean then a PP amplifier but it has less power. For small rooms this excellent. .......

You want for a amp the maximum power available and the distortion is comming from the tubes (if you like that ofc) Distortion from the transformer is not good, the power drops dramaticly and the tubes .......

Just try the transformer. If it's a bit over dimensioned all will be fine. If not, the HV voltage will drop a lot and the transformer will be to hot in , lets say, half an hour. .......

Just one comment, the Tango transformers has a range of transformers with more Inductance, the X series do have the this -1dB at 10Hz under typical triode load. The XE serie has less inductance. ::: .......

I never look at the color of the wires, i have seen polyurethan, polyimide, polyamide, polyesterimide wires with almost the same color, from yellowish to red. Even blue and other colors are available .......

This is a prototype 12H choke. I tried to measure the impedance, at 100 Hz its about 7500 Ohm and it still above 10000 Ohm at 1 MHz. Probably it's better because of the capacity of my probe (6pF). .......

Permendur is a shit material for low level ac level, actually even worse then standard SiFe cores. Somebody with bad knowledge about core materials did the wrong thing. You not have to measure it to k .......

The problem with Jensen and Jupiter is that they use biogradeble oil/wax. On long term that is not stable enough and they can be electical leaky after time. Sound is good, not an mkv , but good enough .......

The choice of a transformer also depends on how much heat development is allowed. A normal transformer can easily handle a temperature rise of 70 degrees Celsius. Only no one would want such a hot tra .......

normally filaments are very voltage sensitive, only at the correct voltage you have long life, i don't think Rod's filament is the correct device for long life. .......

Nowadays i would really avoid nickel transformers unless they are c-core, or toroid and with an excact specicification what the material is. The EI cores i see are not very special so avoid them. ::: .......

You want a 1:1 transformer to prevent any ground loops. And, the very low dc from te secondairy winding will have also a very tight grip at the grid of the input tube. Maybe you want to use fixed bias .......

At the moment you drive a higher impedance the loadline that your powertube will see will be more flat. So less distortion (for a triode), less power output, but higher output voltages from the tubes. .......

Dave, I was at the ETF (long time ago). The test set-up only tells half of the story. For instance if ii have a transformer Ra=3500 and 30H /80 mA. Parallel a choke of only 36H. So that kills the low .......

Cobald Iron is used when needed very high saturation level, up to 2,4T. The used it a lot for welding transformers. It is not so good for audio but, in high-end all is possible. .......

Would love to see a sweet of the monolithmagnetcs transformer from an independent source. When i look at the datasheets from MM then i see lots of faults in the datasheet. I even think they cheat a li .......

Lawrence, If you don't use isolation arround your metglas core you will almost 100% sure damage the isolation of the wire. Probably you can win some extra high frequency response, and a few micro % lo .......

If these material are available it will be in toroids. These "new" materials won't make the differance, it's not a big improvement if i look at the datasheets. .......

Peter, Glad to hear that you look futher then 70kHz. After all the most famous transformer manufactures do also. I agree that frequency bandwith is not the only thing to look at, a good transformer ha .......

Dear Peter, Above the 70kHz trouble begins: resonances. The best transformer winders keep these resonances under controle. I cann't believe that you are not aware of this. You do know about this other .......

Peter, A bit less sofisticated but it works perfectly. It's not the complete set btw, there is another vacuum/presure vessel and also not seen is my compressor. Maybe you noticed a AN transformer .......

Peter , Read more carefully, i didn't say that i didn't use any tensioners. The new type tensioners are more sofisticated and can handle higher windingspeed but that is for me not needed. The tightnes .......

Peter, Internet is your friend, search for Vacuumschmelze and also for finemet and you get enough info for top transformer material. For the more standard materials look for Nicore. AN has fantasy nam .......
