What in the world do you do with 7 speakers? I can barely place two speakers correctly and even then my head is spinning with all the possible variations. That seems like enormous overkill to me but .......

I also have run mine on the EPIs. It's pretty good. See if you can try your SEX on some Klipsch KSB 3.1 speakers. They're quite efficient and great for a small space. And you can usually get them for .......

I tried the receiver route but once you go separates it's stunning how much things improve. Oh and tubes obviously bring it up another level as in a tube/SS mix. YMMV of course. .......

$700 is a beautiful number for the bone stock model. Wow, this thing should be amazing. I've gotten a lot of mileage out of my SEX amp but that would be a great step up. .......

For me it has to be the Yamaha CR-840. Not too exotic, not BOTL, just a great solid sounding receiver with looks that still, still look good and current today. That's a winning combination in my book .......

Lots of cool choices and at some reasonable prices I think. I have both SS and tube preamps to play with plus the option of using some vintage receivers that I have where the amp and preamp can be use .......

One of the the great things I've noticed with the SEX amp is that all 6DN7 tubes sound alike. I've tried several different versions from the coin base to cryoed tubes, they ALL sound the same. ::: TOP .......

Stereo often sounds like trickery. Honesty lies in mono and realism. YMMV of course. I listen primarily to classical music and some mono recording are just stunning for their realism. .......

I've had some luck getting stuff for free. One receiver needed about 4 caps, one receiver just needed some lamps. One was an HT receiver that needed a new fan. Got some nice cassette decks as well and .......

Not every tape but certainly with older C90 tapes. And I have some crazy old tapes. I've looked at the tapes and there are no marks or bad shapes to the tape but they consistently do this. Someone to .......

I like Dual turntables but as Ed stated, parts can be a pain and an expensive rebuild. The Dual I have is a semi so you have to set the needle over the record and lower it. But it has this cool featur .......

I have been told by people in the music industry that a little know fact is that anything you can get a CD of you can get it on vinyl as well. It's just that the getting part is very difficult at time .......

I think the idea is to build it stock to hear what that sounds like and then to move up to that next level if you feel it is necessary. A few of us are running bonestock SEX amps and are quite happen .......

Definitely keep the CornetII! I've tried SS preamps with phono sections and the CII just blows them away. Haven't tried a tube integrated but from what I've read, they aren't all that for phono. ::: T .......

I agree, these things are crazy sensitive and if a seller tells you how great a condition it is in, don't believe him. I've bought 2 of them so far, what disasters! I got a Teac up and running pretty .......

Inconsistent power is even a problem here in the US, particularly with older homes. Voltage varies so wildly. I learned this while taking photos in people's homes and bringing my own lighting kit. I e .......

I got a Technics DBX deck for cheap and I love DBX. It does a great job. I then got a DBX processor for my reel to reel deck. I've heard all the complaints about DBX but so far for me, I love it! ::: .......

Works a treat. The original mat for my dual was hardened, dried out. That kitchen stuff was almost exactly the same height, at least whatever brand I'd bought. Much quiet than the rock hard old one. : .......

I doubt I'm a purist but I've done without, with a passive, with a preamp. The preamp sounded best to me and an audio friend who helps me out. YMMV of course. My preamp is very neutral I'd say althoug .......

I agree that people are looking for great sound in odd directions. I think I was one of them. Such an emphasis in "good sound" is placesd on bass or low notes with a sacrifice made in the high tones. .......
