Have had a pair of davens in my preamp for about 20 years now they are big and clunky but its nice there are caps that come off and contacts are easy to clean if need be. These things last a very long .......

For those that read this post looking for some help here it is.. In cathode bias a small value resistor is placed between the cathode and the ground so it develops negative voltage on the cathode thus .......

Ok nevermind about the paralleled resistors now that the output tubes are drawing proper current there's no need for the dropping resistor to be in there. .......

Ok I played with the divider in the bias supply and now I'm able to get -17 output tubes are drawing about 35 ma I don't know how accurate this old weston 911 is though. Thanks for all the help guys e .......

I will replace the 220k with some 100k. As for the zener diode string from what I have read this will be in series with the center tap and not the b+ ? I also have a problem with the negative bias sup .......

By low resistance node do you mean the dropping resistors on each output tube that the negative bias voltage comes into the grid on ? I thought grid stoppers are connected to ground? I'm converting th .......

You can get isolation transformers for pretty cheap off ebooger. I managed to get a powervar that has 6 outlets on the back of it for a hundred plus shipping iirc it's a model abc1100 pretty heavy thi .......

Thank you! I was able to lower the bias down to around 30ma I had to work the potentiometers back and forth,I think they are just old and all the years of heat has done them in. The proper bias also f .......

What gary says about them is true I have seen alot of w4's with replaced power trannies but its not a big deal as with any thing of this age if its not checked out and fixed up they end up being ticki .......

I have used the oring dampers In the phono stage I built with good results. TopHats are cool too they are made of lead and just go over the top of the tube its been awhile since I have seen any tho, A .......

the potato mashers are cool and very durable iv yet to come across one that was dead, one thing you might keep in mind is the value of the input filter for what ever rectifier your using 5r4 max is 4u .......

no #'s on the trannies it uses 12ax7's and el84's with 5ar4 and your right the modules unplug from the amp and each module plugs into 2 octal sockets. It was made by nobels engineering and manufacturi .......

Have a pair of ads L880's and they are great speakers I have the early version with out the voltage clamps on the tweeters and I have bypassed the fuses, only use them with tube stuff so no worries ab .......

The UA-2 are nice little amps and they will only gain in value. Friend of mine brought me one and wanted me to modify it for guitar amp use and I convinced him to wait around till another 1 popped up .......

I'm pretty lazy so most of the time I just run the bias up till I get a faint red plate then back it off till the red on the plate is gone. Best to do this with the lights low. There are bias meters o .......

From the schematic I can see its fixed bias so you can drop in 10ohm 1 watt resistors on the cathode of each output tube to get yer bias reading from the voltage drop across the resistor. On 7591 cath .......

I think any amp that can run an el34 "power pentode" can run kt77 "beam power tube" Im a vintage kinda guy so one of my favorites is the heathkit aa-81 mono block. .......

To bad the 12SX7 didn't catch on. When I used to collect tubes and I had quite a stash 2 of the most common out of all of them were 12sn7 and 6sn7 what the hell happen to them all? They made millions .......

compressed air and a tooth brush will do it but takes awhile, deoxit works good in some places if its a tuner or receiver dont get any thing on the tuning capacitor. .......

You might have got yer hands on a 5ar4 with a low voltage drop which could have fried that cap. If it was the input filter "the 1st cap the rectifier see's I would suspect the 5ar4. Haft to confirm th .......

eh just clean it up with a small wire brush and use a vacuum to get rid of all the rust dust then take some news paper to mask every thing else off and spray it. .......

Always liked the sound of the eico stereo 40 its pretty easy to rebuild no neg bias supply. It uses 7591 output tubes and the output iron is nice. Its an ugly looking thing but one of my favs. ::: TOP .......
