after 50 years and 250+ pairs of good speakers. The opus are a smaller version of the eidolon, same accuton mids and tweeters. Amazingly good, but pricey, as are Tidal, Lumenwhite, etc. Hard to implem .......

they used the same drivers as the L1590, their best ever floorstander, IMO. If you see a pair at a good price, buy em. You may need to have the mids or tweeters rebuilt, but they are exceptional. Rare .......

I think they are quite good speakers, certainly at used prices. Very smooth and well integrated presentation. They serve the music well. You need a sub that is clear sounding out to 100hz. or a bit hi .......

I use their 200wpc plate amp. I like it a lot. Good features, bulletproof and the bass is very tight and controlled as is the norm for Hypex amps. I had used a 500 watt Dayton amp and the hypex is muc .......

Yes, all the cables are tour cables, with lots of stops. I'm pretty sure they all have 100+ hours on them. The DD is kind of the opposite of the Grovers- the Grovers are upfront, the DD are more laid .......

they are solidly made...not carved out of granite, etc., but pretty quiet and intelligently designed. The veneer work and finishing is stunning as good as anything in the $$$$ class, with the best ven .......

to me that was the main drawback to the Volents in that room. The Selahs simply are a bigger sounding speaker, and are flatter, more neutral, a bit less colored, and with a smoother top end. As I ment .......

That said, for any dipolar planar to work really well you need to be able to control the positioning and reflections in a pretty large room, something many people can't do. I use VMPS RM30s, with mono .......

For me the modded GCC is the end of the road for amps. Superb transparency and dynamic impact, but it must be said it may well be too squeaky clean and unemotional for those whose systems or preferenc .......

I prefer them in that order. The 100 was cleaner and better defined than the HCA, but drier- maybe too dry. The 250 has a smoother, more natural mid and top end than the 100 and much better lower mid .......

my favorite vintage speakers in that range are JBL L80t or L100t, or B&O M70, S60, or S75. The B&O models use neoprene surrounds and very good drivers. JBLs may need new surrounds. B&Os tend to be a b .......

IMO, it is not the tweeter quality, but the crossover design. For that reason, only a supertweeter can fill it in. I played with a ribbon ST, but found the rolloff began lower than the ribbon cound ha .......

I feel the same way about them, as does my friend who owns them. If you can find a used ACI Force sub (around $4-500), it is one of the few reasonably priced subs that won't muddy up that great imagin .......

simply will blow the jbls away, IMO. The ribbons can be repaired or replaced, and you can buy a beefier amp later, but the sound quality of the apogees is something to cherish. The jbls are fairly goo .......

but the tweeter doesn't integrate with that large a woofer very well. Also the tweeter has limited vertical dispersion, so you need to tilt them back and point the right at the listener to get the bes .......

the 999/ss regulation to the 9100 w/ tube recifier is from the ps tube rectifier. I don't know how to quantify it in absolute terms, but to me it was very audible and salutory. .......

I find that they sound most balanced in a smallish room. In my 17x20 living room, they do sound thinner and tipped up, while in my 12x17 bedroom they are well balanced. A sub would help, or perhaps th .......

it does not have the bass depth of the GR10, for instance. The MA has a drier sound, more clinical if you like, with a bit of emphasis at the top, while the Silverline has a more liquid,natural sound, .......

I've heard that the 16s bump up the midbass a bit- I've not heard them myself, however. I must say that the SR11s sure made me sit up and take notice when I first heard them, and they have become perm .......

the ACIs are more laid back overall, while the SR11 is more highly accurate overall, imo, while avoiding being overly analytical. One of the best small monitors. The ACI has deeper bass, though. The S .......

very fast and transparent, almost 'stat like. Top end was a bit prominent, though. One of my fave small speakers, which is saying a lot. .......

not as refined as some, but smooth and musical. If you're looking for a "budget" solution until you have your optimum match, the PSs are a very good option. The GC series amps are better yet. ::: TOPI .......
