Hard to be sure of "best", but the BHK preamp mates really well with the BHK 300 mono's in my system, so I'd suspect that they would do as well with the 250. It's a really good preamp for the money in .......

Speaker placement is the biggest "tweak" anyone can do. Usually our rooms are what they are (unless WAF doesn't get in the way of crazy acoustic treatments), and getting the speakers in their best spo .......

I could add an external SSD for Roon, and I have read of people upgrading their RAM to 4GB on these with fine results. But the processor is what it is.... I would like to avoid buying another applianc .......

When I recapped an EAR 890. That amp runs HOT, and the ten year old caps were bulging. Put in the FC's and it definitely made the amp sound better, more accurate/clearer without losing any of the tube .......

I have found the 2 ohm tap best off of my Phi 200 for certain speakers (always pays to play with all three tap options for a given speaker load). I'm guessing there are other brands with such, too. :: .......

I owned the originals, and they were a true pain to bias - - had to open the bottom of the amp up and run it on its side, using all three of your hands to touch the two probes onto the right spots on .......

I used Cardas GR for quite a while, and they do improve significantly after treatment with an Audiodharma Cable Cooker - - you get the tonal qualities that sound like they match your system well, but .......

I tried them in direct comparison to Morrow SP7's in a shotgun biwire set up, and for me there was no comparison whatsoever (IME, IMS, etc., etc.). I spent a loooong time breaking in both, and the SP7 .......

I can highly recommend it. Use the VH Audio CuTf capacitors for the analog out, 2W tantalum resistors on the analog board, and some premium NOS tubes all around. Configure with SPDIF and AES/EBU input .......

I just acquired a few ECL82 / 6BM8 tubes, and went to test them on my 534. The chart says to use EV-3672-0 for the pentode section, and this worked just fine. But for the triode section the charts say .......

It developed over time when I used Winged C 6550's in place of the original Ei KT-90's (this was the suggested substitute by the importer of the amp). The amp sure seemed to run hotter with the 6550's .......

Ei KT-90 II's are just killer in my EAR 890 pentode style. It is a flat out great tube, and a shame that it is no longer produced. I will some day McShane my HK II and try the KT-90's in there, too. M .......

I went with the CuTF, because an audio buddy used them in some 45 amps and loved them. After ~180 hours of break in I switched in the Bendix 6X5 for the stock supplied tube, and that was an important .......

I have been using KT-90's in an EAR 890 and loving them. It does matter which KT-90, as noted below, as the EH version does not sport much of a good reputation for sonics, and have not proven very rob .......

I would second that suggestion of a VAC preamp, but I can also recommend the EAR 868. I owned the SFL1 back in the 90's, straight up, no mods, and I rolled some tubes in it (a single 12AT7 I believe?) .......

I have owned both the original Mani-2's for ~10 years and then the Signatures for 2 years, and I definitely found the Sig's to be better with a more transparent midrange that provided additional infor .......
