Yes - the 915 can be modified, however the CDC935 or 936 has a better DAC. If you are looking around I'd go for one of those. .......

Hi and thanks. The 3012/SPU combo is a tried and true combination. Yes, the 3012 handles the tracking force just fine (with plenty of adjustment left over). There are additional counterweights for the .......

Yeah - me too. I've also had an affection for the Thorens TD-124 / 3012 / SPU combo. I have one other MC cart which I believe is an Ortofon (not an SPU type though). I should put it on and see what it .......

Yup - the output trans were of no use when we got started. There were a total of six 2A3's on these amps, 3 each in parallel push-pull. All of the transformers were made by Kenyon. The Hammond trans r .......

Yup, they are heavy. There is only one way to carry them and that's from the rear. First intiuition is to grab them from the front, which breaks the mountings for those two big oil caps. I just fixed .......

As with any amp or preamp or crossover or speaker or turntable....they eventually will get old and need help. Such is the case with my entire system. Everything I have was bought new from Don or Peter .......

Oh I ran them for several years. They were the centerpiece to my system. All who heard them thought they were really fine. It'll be later this year before I can afford to get 2A3's - so until then it' .......

It's not stainless, it's all aluminum. The finish means nothing to the sound, so I can't see spending the time at this point. I understand that may really bother folks, but to each their own :) ::: TO .......

Thoughtful input. We both think similarly. The pliers tips never entered the journal - they just did a better job of gripping than my hands could :) As for debris - I learned from rebuilding the heads .......

I took Wes Benders advice and visited the Galibier website. The recommended an Astron RS-7A DC power supply. I found one shipped for $20 on eBay. We'll see how that works. This will do while I look fo .......

Yeah - point of diminishing returns in practice. I could certainly do much better, but the fussing and farting around, I stopped where I did because it was pretty darn close and only took a few minute .......

FWIW - I have three of Don's modified Philips CDC935 CD players, on a whim I set out to replicate one for myself and it worked great. Sounds exactly as my others. Since I had a working model to start .......
