I use Sylvania gold brand gold pin 3 mica 5751's in my Cary phono stage and they have been the best I've heard. The JHS Sylvania's are also very good. RCA 3 mica 5751's are also quite good. The 5751 h .......

The more information to a recording, the more that a cd seems to lose. Vinyl has so much more information than cd that I remain amazed by it. All that setup and prep for LP, I really don't like at all .......

Acrylic is easier to find in various thicknesses and colors and it seems a very good media unless you ask a select few tt makers who eschew it. I'm not sure it's the best but can be very good. Bill :: .......

I don't know what the difference is but I have the FR 1 MK 3 F and the seller thought it may be the stylus. I know mine uses a Line Contact stylus. It's the only LO MC that I've owned and it does pull .......

Even a fairly cheap cartridge can sound better than most cds. Be very certain that it is broken in and is properly set up. If it was able to blow you away with an album or two, maybe it's pretty close .......

I have Lucky Man/Take a Pebble on both Cotillion and Island and both are very good. I'll give a slight edge to the Island as alittle more detailed, maybe more clarity. The Cotillion is still a fine LP .......

I don't know how good an old TD124 can be but I shopped for them for years and never found the right one for a reasonable price. I'm not much of a builder/tinkerer and they usually fetch $300 or $400 .......

A VPI HW 19 III or IV is much easier to set up than a Linn and might actually outperform the Linn. Specs are better, I'm sure. At 52 lbs with the lead/acrylic platter, it is a fairly serious contender .......

The spindle fits very tightly in the platter and has to be "knocked apart". The problem is the spindle flopping around inside of the bearing housing, making me think that it's not going down far enoug .......

Music Direct has "Zerodust", (their favorite) at $70 or an "Extreme Phono" version for $30, less the magnifying glass. Both seem overpriced to me but saving a stylus and LP's is certainly worth some e .......

Oops, I just reread my Cary manual and it says that I have 42db gain on MM, not 32. Mine does say 60db gain for MC. It lists input impedance as 47k ohms for MM and 10k to 68k adjustable for MC. There .......

My best systems have always had their best sonic qualities from 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock and will be quite loud. There should be no annoying hums or hisses when everything is in balance even at this vo .......

Heard it as a demo on a Linn LP12 with MC and lusted for an LP12 for many years. This was a small, local high end shop which is long gone, none for 50 miles now. I just remember the fantastic detail. .......

It doesn't always work that way. I have vinyl from the 50's to new and it certainly does vary. To me, a really well made album will have no surface noise, at least nothing that you will hear through t .......

The only difference between the two seems to be that the Island pressing is from 1970 and the Cotillion from 1971. The initials etched in the vinyl appear to be HU on the Island and possibly ST and GP .......

For loud levels, it is usually best to have everything set flat. Too much bass is a characteristic not normally associated with vinyl. If your setting for bass is flat and loudness or boost is off, yo .......

Nice old tt's usually have a decent looking wood plinth and I'd steer clear of one that actually looked beat up. It could sound fine but usually people who owned them tended to take good care of them .......

Over on the Audio Review site, it seems that 90% of the questions are regarding which HT receiver to buy or how to incorporate everything into their HT system. I guess I'm an old fogey but I don't eve .......

All have been new or perfect condition and that certainly helps but it's the sonics and clarity that stand out in what I have of them. Bill .......

I think lot's of good suggestions were made. Nobody else mentioned Micro Seiki but I don't know why. Some of their wood plinth belt drives go for around $100 and they should all be decent. The plastic .......

I would avoid direct drive in this price range, too many clunkers out there. I'd look for a good used belt drive, Thorens, Micro Seiki, Dual, AR. There are some that go pretty cheap in Pioneer, Panaso .......

I have found a few promotional LP's and was wondering if they are typically better in any way than the LP's that were sold to the general public. The few that I have, Cat Stevens "Back to Earth" (A&M) .......

It's older but a good performer in the 100wpc range of amps. Just not enough power for my main system, otherwise nothing wrong with it. Bill .......

When I first opened this, I thought it was in terrible condition. It was very dusty. Whether a fault of the paper liner or a tendancy of the vinyl, who knows. It does show lines of paper scraping, mor .......

Not the typical vinyl sound if you ask me. Sounded bright, maybe tinny at times. Whether a result of over EQ or what, I don't know but I've heard better recordings. Parts of it sounded OK but not enou .......
