I'm PC Based and I've been using a 1973 Stillwell app. for many years. However, I don't really change the levels all that often (unless something is really recorded poorly), so really I'm compensating .......

I went to see the Hot Club of Detroit play over the weekend. I love Django / Gypsy swing and this band was incredible. It was Gypsy swing with a taste of Pat Metheny, Ornette Coleman and even Kronos .......

Over the past two years I started having problems with the fuses in front of my power tubes. In 2 of the 3 occurences, the problem was the tubes themselves. Though they tested strong, no leaks, etc. .......

From my experience with a PP amp, the phase splitter tubes are very very critical to the sound. .......

The easy wat to tell the difference is that the 504 is supposed to only have 1 12ax7 while I know that the 505 has 2 12ax7. .......

That's quite interesting and surprising! I just asked the Canadian Copland distributor that question and he replied that there would be no problem running the KT88s in the CTA-505! .......

Very enjoyable reading! I too have a Copland CTA 505 which I've owned and loved for over 5 years and I've paired it up with an Audioprism Mantissa preamp. In my Copland I prefer GE 6550s, CBS Hytron .......

I own a Copland 505 too, but haven't yet replaced the 12AX7 tubes. I'd be interested in gaining knowledge on biasing the 12AX7s as well as the 6550s. I'm aware of a post by Biggs on August 15, 2000 .......
