Thanks all for the responses. One reason I posted this item is that there exists a source for replacement ribbons for the Apogee Stage these days. It is a bit pricey however considering these are rare .......

I was impressed with the larger scale in the mid range. Having quite a bit more surface area gave one the feel of a large Maggie or Apogee. The pair I had were a old set needing new panels at around 1 .......

In response there is a flim backing used to hold the ribbon to the mylar with the Magnepan while the ET Laminates ( essentially the same thing) the foil to the mylar. Magnepan has little information a .......

I am afraid to say I would tend to say I differ on your opinion. When one observes the extreme sag on the edges of the mylar ( IE 1/2 " bow) these appear as if they have been subjected to extreme heat .......

Well how old are these? 25 or more years old? Just think about it. The modern ESL's require new mylar and/ or treatment every 10 years or less from what I have seen. If these do work it is doubtfull t .......

I owned the 3.3R for a few months and in my opinion go for the 3.6R. It has a quasi ribbon mid range which I have found far more enjoyable, as having a front mounted driver section ( IE rear magnets). .......

I appreciate the responses but after investigation the cost of this means of transport is close to two thirds the cost of the speakers themselves. I guess I will just have to remain happy with my ETVI .......

As far as I know there are at least 3 versions of woofer for the VIII and VIIIA. The orignal which might be what you have. The cone is not treated as I recall is on the VIII where the tweeter is furth .......

As a previous MMG owner it seemed that there was a limiting factor with this sytem as to uppper SPL being generated, true for any speaker but I believe more evident with planars as they reach their ma .......

Yes you can see the wrinkles increase in height off of the mylar with increasing amplitude. If this was uniform I would see no problem either , however I believe this conveys to the concept of the lam .......
