A used turntable is a great place to start. Alot of people used old Duals. Whatever you do buy a new cartridge and set it up correctly so you don't destroy your records. Good luck, Jason .......

I second the VPI. I bought a used HW-19jr. with an upgraded platter and a very nice tonearm. I put a Dynavector 20xh on it and am very pleased. They are upgradable, parts are easy to get and their cus .......

You should get an Anthem AVM20 like I have. Switching to mono is as easy as finding your way through a convoluted set of menus only to have to find your way back to play in stereo again. Good thing yo .......

They were made by Hile Studio in Pasadena CA. I don't believe they have a website but there are several of their dealers that do. Stickley Furniture Co. also makes the same design or find a local wood .......

There is no way I could "listen through" this much distortion. I think it muct be worn out records caused by not enough tracking force, incorrect vta, or worse. Three bucks for a good old record still .......

I have a Yamaha DVD-s2300. The dropout only happens on the multi channel layer and not the stereo. I have had problems with it reading a couple of times now. The player says no read and then switches .......

On track six at about 1:25 the sound dissapears for about a second. Also the sound on the multi layer seems to lack alot of bass. The stereo layer has plenty of bass. Anyone else have these problems? .......

The Yamaha does allow time adjustments but only on the DVD side. Not SACD. I have been very pleased with mine. .......
