The original Quads do quite well with lower powered tube amps running off the 16 ohm taps...I am using a Fisher 600 with 7189 power tubes and it is the best amp I have found so far bar none.... ::: TO .......

There is a big computer surplus store (used/recycled computers) near me and they have given me three 120V muffin fans from computer cases that are perfect for audio use. Both Ebay and Google are great .......

Summer line voltages here average over 125 - much too hi for vintage gear. I use a 10A variac to step it down to the factory rated 117V AC. Runs cooler and so does not stress component as much.... ::: .......

My M-150 clearly has the more desirable rubber surround on the woofer, and I always thought it was the earlier model. Even after all these years, I upgraded the wire and the one cap to the tweeter and .......

I have about twenty of these. I sold all of my later production "small lion" and only have the 1960s/early 1970s "big lion" tubes left. The older ones certainly sound better than the new, I think the .......

Of all the amps I have tried, the best on my Picquet-rebuilt Quads are the Fisher 500C and MFA M-75 (black plate TS 6550s and octal input tube) based on the Dyna Mk 3 trannies. Better than Marantz 8B .......

My 500C, one of the earlier serial numbers, has the "Golden Synchrode" tubed front end. They switched to nuvistors after the first run. Interesting, the 800C ALWAYS had the tubed front end...Hexfreds .......
