here's how i did it. absorption inside and diffusion outside. that's 4 inch auralex studiofoam wedges and tfusors. covering the rear of the speakers would reflect sound back onto the driver like a box .......

you can get deqx to work on magnepans. it's kind of tricky. you have to have them aimed just right and align the measurement mic to the listening chair. elevation of the mic should be half way up the .......

here you go. have 4 of them stacked. that's exactly what you want. best sounding woofer i've heard. using deqx parametric to blend it with my tympani panels. very loud. very deep. very fast. no "box" .......

i don't get what you're implying with the decay measurements. milliseconds are room acoustics to me not driver limitations. are you saying the rd's ring? as far as i know, the construction is similar. .......

i did a similar project with rd50's and tympani bass panels. i cross the gr-research subs to the first bass panel at 40hz 24 db per octave. after that it's very similar to what you describe. overall, .......

get a deqx for diy (or anything). it just sounds real. it simplifies the measurement process and get's it right in short order. there's a bit of a learning curve i guess, but the built in wizards give .......

keep a repair kit on hand. i can take mine out and fix them in a couple hours. it's not from playing them too loud if you have the power. it's usually something stupid or accidental. .......

i removed the bass/midrange panel. i use tympani bass panels and gr research ob subs. i cut a hole in a 1x10 and recessed the bg driver into it from the front. the back of the bg driver is about flush .......

it must take quite a few heating and cooling cycles to come loose. i've never felt them warm while they're playing, but when gluing them down they did get warm when i ran current through them to cente .......

i stripped them completely with acetone and reglued them twice. they lasted many years, but i'm tired of it. it seems they fail at the verticle center of the driver. in the failure areas the wire seem .......

so far, the sound is pretty good. there is a certain "harshness" in upper vocal range, but i think i can figure that out. as far as detail goes, which is a big reason i chose the bg driver, i'm a litt .......

the dip i was trying to figure out was the midrange. it's the red line on the chart. all drivers are measured separately on a deqx. if you hook your drivers up backwards it will "fix" it automatically .......

looks to me like the first reflection in front is the woofer panels. try some 4" foam wedges on the grill. 2" foam won't do anything for midrange frequencies(a half wave at 1khz is about 6"). if that .......

are you thinking A370PEQ or H550PEQ3? i'm using the A370PEQ for 2 woofers. they're 16 ohms so 3 might not be that bad. 3 per side would make nice line sources. what you can see is subsonic usually. be .......

8 gr's would be a little overkill i think. i think you need 1 amp for each 2 woofers. they have a different amp for the open baffle one. how big is your room? look at the bottom of the linked page for .......

looks like the highest crossover frequency on the rythmik amp is 120hz. i use the deqx crossover at 40hz 24db per octave so i never really thought about it. best bass i've heard is planars. if you wan .......

should come out perfect. it does each driver separately, so it will line up the impulse responses. if you integrate a sub (biamp with sub) you need to do it manually as far as i know. there may be a b .......

i like them tweeters in and as far apart as possible for the widest "stage". deqx should get the phase right at the crossover (500hz 48db per octave?). sometimes deqx will see something more than 90 d .......

i used to run 2 velodyne uld15's crossed very low just to keep the tympani panels from rattling. i was really surprised how much better the open baffle subs sound (boxless?). articulate is a good word .......

i would use absorbers. i use 4" studiofoam wedges on the front wall inside and t'fusors outside. don't really have sidewall problems with the tweeters "in" you might try changing the toe in to point t .......

on mine the scale is -10 to +10. yours looks to be a smaller scale. the reflection is only 1. at least the amplitude is not high. i'm using the old software (v2.01). no 96khz measurements. ::: TOPIC:: .......

i think you're right. the resistor is to match it to the midrange through the passives. 2.2 ohms at the higher frequencies might not be that difficult because the lower power needed. i've had good res .......

2.2 ohms makes me nervous. if you did get an amp to drive it, the gain might not match up with the midrange as the volume changes. keeping the dcr closer to the same as the midrange might actually sou .......

if you uncheck the woofer measurement it might look a lot different. there's a little noise in the first couple ms on mine, but it's bass. i think that's just the distance it is from the bass panels. .......

how far out is your first reflection (ms)? you should still be anechoic if you set the gate before it. take the resistor out if you can. 2.2ohms is a tough load, but if you're shopping for an amp... d .......

there are jumpers on the mainboard for matching amplifier gain on my pdc2.6 and express. I assume they put them on the new ones too. left and right gain should be close if your amps are the same. when .......

mine are about five feet from the front wall (which are treated) and i don't move them to measure either. in the impulse view you can see the first reflection. you set the gate to just before the firs .......

on my 3.5r's i use 500hz 48db per octave linear phase and 2khz 48db per octave linear phase. be conservative when using steep crossovers - err toward driver protection. deqx will flatten the response .......

i measure them with the mic positioned between the midrange and ribbon. 3 feet away, half way up the ribbon from the floor (middle of the ribbon). i think the mid to ribbon crossover is the most impor .......

i would just get the express and buy the behringer ecm-8000 measuring mic somewhere else for about $50 if all you need is 3-way. on the express the volume control is digital. i just leave it turned up .......

deqx uses your pc to make the filters, so i'm pretty sure the "processing power" is sufficient. i also like keeping the dac separate from my pc. pc's can be noisy. the acourate software looks interest .......

you need to take some measurements to get the exact frequency of the room modes with poor decay. sometimes moving the speakers and listening position is enough, but from my experience, no room is perf .......

i should do that again. that's how i used to set the "toe in". by turning the speaker you could "center" the phase. it usually took about 3-5 measurements per channel to get it perfect. .......

if you have your speakers that far from the wall then the reflection is not early and can probably be treated just fine with diffusion. with music (not test tones) the frequency and amplitude are cons .......

10ms is still pretty early. after about 15ms on music, the reflected frequencies aren't "related" to the direct frequencies, so they don't get comb filtered. if you're only treating the first reflecti .......

i'm not sure about any rules about diffusers. but they aren't the right tool for early reflections. if you have 10' between the speakers and the front wall, i would not consider that reflection "early .......

i would try to get as much distance between the speaker and the treatment as i could. the spl will be lower so the sound reflected from the absorber will be less. even the best absorbers are quite ref .......

i wouldn't worry too much about a couple db of amplifier gain. you really need to take some measurements to quickly get it right. having the same amplifier gain is no guarantee it's going to sound fla .......

sometimes a 10 db cut only makes a 3db difference on stacked modes. i wouldn't call it a smear, just slow in room decay. it's mostly just trial and error. measure, adjust, remeasure, listen to result .......

that's exactly how it works. the parametric eq is for "room correction" and the filters are for "speaker correction". once the speakers are corrected, you still have to get the mid and high frequencie .......

my 3.5r's have a 3 ohm ribbon. i've measured it many times. i think they started the 3 ohm ribbon on later 3a's. early 3a's had a 2 ohm ribbon and a 1 ohm resistor as i understand it. .......

i recommend using miloxane only. i don't think putting miloxane over the solvent based cement is a good idea. if you want to do it right, you have to strip the mylar, (half the length at a time) then .......

that's exactly what it is. they use a u.v. inhibitor to lessen damage by light. i have used 3m fastbond 30-nf in a pinch when miloxane was not available. the water based products are much easier to wo .......

most folks try absorbers with too narrow of bandwidth and say it killed the highs. the real problem is it didn't "kill" the midrange. that glare you hear i'm pretty sure is most noticeable at 1khz or .......

it's really not as simple as a db measurement. often times the bumps in response are quite narrow frequency wise. the rs spl meter cannot measure decay either which is much more offensive than a sligh .......

the caps and inductors are way nastier than any wires i can think of. if you wire the drivers directly to your amp there can be some improvement in clarity. that is not to say a different wire/cap/ind .......

don't skimp. some folks make the mistake of using too thin of an absorber then say it sounds muffled. you need an absorber that will work down into the midrange. if you don't want to take my word for .......

i think you mean acceleration. that's why the ribbon tweeter works so well. this really only comes into play at the higher frequencies as there is really nothing "fast" about bass as far as the driver .......

crown k2 sounds ok. no fans no noise no heat problems. plenty of power. you can usually find them on ebay for around $700. you can run them stereo or mono. in a pinch you could use the adjustable gain .......

i used one years ago, but not with maggies. i think those are l/r 24db/oct. i would try 300hz for the crossover. i really don't think you'll notice any degradation compared to running through the pass .......

the sound of the 3.5r's with digital correction is very good. the bass is much better on the panels than on the subs i currently use. running the panels on the 3.5r's down to 40hz sounds very nice. th .......

some eq's are very sophisticated. this one is probably of higher quality than anything in your system. it is now possible to eq with very good results. of course to get it right you still need proper .......

it has become clear to me that the planar bass is superior to the box subs i'm using now. wherever i set the crossover is about where the bass decay gets longer and not quite as crisp. this conclusion .......

i don't think it is miloxane that is the problem. older magnepans didn't use miloxane. i stripped and reglued the midranges on my 3.5r's with miloxane several years ago. they were pretty "green" looki .......

with magnepans speaker wires should be kept as short as possible. long speaker wires have a negative effect on dampening factor. using long ic's can bring in rf noise so choose an interconnect with go .......

with the deqx the slopes have little or no consequence. the resulting measured output will have flat frequency response and no phase shift. i use 96db per octave linear phase "slopes". all the careful .......

i had an extra behringer mic that came with an ultracurve. i used the same cal file with both mics and didn't see (or hear) much difference. perhaps the placement of the mic wasn't precisely the same .......

bsod is bad. from my experience it is usually hardware. are you running software version 2.01 and firmware 58_11? those are the latest "release" versions. there are more recent "beta" version that fix .......

another problem with cat5 is each pair is a different length. cut a 1 foot length of cable then untwist and measure the wires. i think you will find quite a difference from the logest to the shortest. .......

the dispersion pattern of a line source like magnepans works well because floor and ceiling reflections aren't a problem. if you would rather treat your floor and ceiling with thick acoustic foam than .......

you can see the terminal blocks through the socks in this picture. if you're using an electronic crossover you can hook up directly to them and bypass everything. the ribbons are obviously on each end .......

from your previous post i concluded you were comfortable with taking them apart. the best crossover tweak is to go electronic and wire the amps directly to the terminal blocks inside the speakers. tho .......

i would save the money and invest it elsewhere. mye stands, electronic crossover, and triamp comes to mind. in their stock form the 3.6r will sound better than stock 3.3r's. the basic construction is .......

i guess my point was it depends more on the setup and how carefully it's done. metallica isn't hard to play at all if you're dealing with flat frequency response. a couple poorly placed room modes and .......

once i got my room acoustics right and tweaked the bottom end frequency response with a parametric eq and other various tricks, everything sounds "right". the most common problems are early reflection .......

i still stand by matching the amp to the driver. it takes a different sort of amp to best drive a large planar magnetic than a true ribbon. as far as slavery to my system goes, that all ended when i s .......

ka7 is wrong indeed the deqx is what he needs with phase and frequency correction the right amps acheive perfection what each driver needs is the catch the amps don't need themselves to match tubes an .......

if it were me, and i just got me some 20's, i would tear out the crossovers right away and active triamp using the deqx before ever hooking them up. the difference is night and day. that's my advice. .......

the parent poster has 20's i have 3.5's it's hard to say exactly where the "crossover" is in a system like the deqx. when you make the correction filter you specify the frequency, but with correction .......

i went with 1700hz 96db per octave for the mid/tweeter crossover. i split the woofer output with a bryston 10b at 250hz 12db lowpass and 300hz 18db highpass. linkwitz-riley 24db per octave at 60hz for .......

i went there to hear the 3.6r's. they wanted me to hear the b&w's first though. i could see through their setup so i asked to try the 3.6r's at home. my setup at home was poor, and there was not enoug .......

the c-j tubes sound nice indeed. unfortunately they are monoblocks and i could not justify the cost to use them only on the ribbons. after hearing what the eAR's can do for a fraction of the price wit .......

best i've heard. i run 2 k2's mono on the bass panels of 3.5r's. you will not regret using these even on the midrange. never tried them on the ribbon though, i suspect they would have a hard time keep .......

room modes can differ greatly from a box to a dipole. if you are measuring full range, the spl of the room modes is what you are measuring, as that would be the loudest by far. the only accurate way t .......

are you sure you have your distances correct? most manufacturers rate speakers at 1 meter - not 2.5 meters. .......
