I've been toying with the idea of jumping on the open baffle bandwagon and sketched out some ideas. Using the JE Labs template, I've thought a pseudo three-way design may offer some interesting result .......

I did just that and the difference was pretty special. The amp was no slouch before; but after the initial break-in period with the V-Caps (they take MANY hours to settle in), the amp completely opene .......

I'm using Senn HD-600. The hum is the same on both channels and is is def a soft/low 60Hz. The attenuator is a Goldpoint Shunt-type and the caps are V-Caps (TFTF & OIMP) I haven't tried shorting the .......

Given your preferences, I would think a 2A3 would work out nicely. I ran a pair w/ a Fi 2A3 (3WPC) or a Korneff 45 (1.5WPC) depending on my mood and both worked very well. The Fi drove them to pretty .......

Grainger, I tried your suggestion - which is a GREAT troubleshooting tool - and resolved the issue. Turns out it wasn't a solder joint, but the positive and negative signal wires going to the headphon .......

I use a pocket-sized butane soldering iron from Rat Shack. It has a blow-torch style attachment that allows for pretty precise placement of the heat. Only problem is you have to be mindful not to keep .......

Tin/Lead/Silver (62% tin/36% lead/2% silver) rosin core solder. I've only compaired it to the RS silver solder - and of the two, I prefer WL. It flows very well and is about half the cost of the Carda .......

Nothing fancy in terms of design. The front panel is Cherry with a hint of burl, with the sides back are Maple. I used five coats of Tung Oil as a finish. It's relatively easy to use and really brings .......

I've decided to mod a Toshiba SD-3950 (I've found them on ebay between $10 & 40). I'll prolly try the Vinnie Rossi mods and do an A/B against the 588. I'm sure the 588 will best it, but you never know .......

Well... I gave it the wipe test and everything checked out. Just for good measure, I re-wired the volume pot and re-check my resistance readingd... spot on! 0.9 at zero volume and 100.8 at full volume .......

There's a Korneff 45 over on A-gon for $1050. His amps are killer & built like tanks. Only problem is you'll need some efficient speakers (96dB or more) as the amp only delivers 2 WPC. "one good thin .......

Great value for the $$$! Although I have no exp. w/ PT equipment, the Musical Fidelity DAC (switchable 96/192 up sampling), really made redbook cd's bloom (paired w/ a Rotel CDP as a transport). Inne .......
