I recall the Bowers and Wilkens DM6 speaker of the 1970s that was claimed to be linear phase. The drivers were physically time aligned. And the crossovers were 1st order, sort of. They were 1st order .......

All gear, including solid state improves as it warms up. But if you're just there to enjoy music most gear sounds pretty good from the start. So for critical listening wait for warmup. Otherwise enjoy .......

All subs have a low pass filter. Almost none have a high pass filter. If there's no high pass there is no reduced usage of the main woofer. .......

I have my taste in speaker performance. It includes great detail, extremely tight bass and especially linear changes in loudness. Flat response is desirable but I'd sacrifice a little bit for the prio .......

All they do is tell you about the recording. If they sound lifeless you're blaming the messenger. Any piece of audio gear that always sounds one way is totally colored over ruling what's on the record .......

Plugging ports will of course lose bass. Ported speakers aren't really designed to have the ports stuffed. Bass comes out of the ports and it will be lost. But if a sub is designed properly as a seale .......

If one goes low enough and loud enough two subs are a waste. There is NO stereo down low even if it is on the source where it sometimes isn't. Three or four subs make sense because you can set them up .......

The math is correct but you need to measure the cone radius or find it in specs somewhere. The size given of most drivers is the diameter of the frame which, of course, is larger than the cone area. : .......

The drivers are old and I'm sure had foam surrounds. The old foam deteriorated just like your pictures. There's a good chance the rest of the driver is OK. Newer foam surrounds seem much longer lived. .......

From listening to good line sources it's not a huge problem though you are correct it's there. But everything is a trade off and horns have strong plusses(many I admire) but they do have other problem .......

Keep in mind Pass amps handle bad speaker loads very well. Plus the 25 watt rating of the amp is at 8 ohms and at class A. The amp actually is a rcih class A AB amp and easily puts out over 70 watts A .......

The lowest the impedance curve is 5 ohms below 120 Hz so two in parallel is half that or 2.5 ohms. But you also have to take into account the reactance, where the voltage and current are out of phase .......

It doesn't make sense to me. To have low bass fundamental to it is a low resonance frequency for the bass driver. This rare in such a small driver if it even exists. You'd have to make it a heavy cone .......

You are wrong. Very deep bass is not directional. You locate low frequency sound from the harmonics. I was at an exhibit with subs at least 3 feet from the main speakers. All the sound seemed to come .......

A high pass at 80 Hz means the woofers in your main speakers are working 1/4 as hard as if they are run full range. The mid bass and well up into the mid range will be cleaner, more transparent and mo .......

It actually uses the drivers specified by the BBC way back then, the B110 mid/woofer and the T27 tweeter. The founder of Falcon designed them for KEF and Falcon is making them again. .......

The specs for the LS3/5a spec values for all crossover parts and test pass specs for the KEF drivers(most of which didn't pass and were sent back to KEF). But the overall frequency spec and especially .......

The 2 biggest flaws of the LS3/5a are it's bumped up bass to help balance the over all speaker response since it doesn't go low enough to maintain balance otherwise. But the price is sloppy mid bass, .......

The BBC used excellent drivers in the LS3/5a. You have to remember it's a 50 year old design and KEF drivers were among the best then. The problem with the LS3/5a is just that it's so old and we've le .......

A cheap 3 way crossover will probably sound worse than the simple one you have now. Crossovers are complex and they must be designed for the combination of parts making up each speaker to sound good. .......

I think you will find the A26 is padded down with a series resistor and Madisound includes 3 resistors with the kit so you can choose your balance. But the smaller the padding the better. But keep in .......

Nice looking performance. Makes you wonder why SEAS didn't use it in their A26 design. It would have saved money. My only guess is that being smaller in diameter they preferred the kit tweeter dispers .......

I've been told that too by a manufacturer who uses them probably because most tube people have been led to believe they are better especially due to higher power output. But in the best amps linearity .......

The 100 watt rating is a bit confusing. First of all it's 100 total meaning it's a 50 watt amp. And that's into 4 ohms which is sort of OK since a lot of speakers are rated at 4 ohms. But most amps st .......
