Ribbons, because of the way they are made move more easily than planars that have limitations as they move since they are being stretched which fights movement. But they handle power better than ribbo .......

That's probably true about their top tweeter which is a ribbon and very good. I thought you were referring to their other drivers, all of which are planar and not ribbons, not even their quasi ribbons .......

It's a planar, not a ribbon if it's supported on the sides and the displacement of the diaphragm is different between a ribbon and a planar. .......

probably more costly alternative. by the way I believe the only way an amp can make a speaker more dynamic is if it's more linear than the amp it's replacing, I once had a great demo from a single amp .......

Reviews of active and passive ATC 50 speakers almost always favor active version even after praising the passive version. You seem to misunderstand how crossover loads affect an amplifier's performanc .......

I expect the active ATC will still sound better since the Devialet will have to drive the crossover load while the ATC amps only have to drive the coice coils and the load is split among 3 amps. ::: T .......

Unless you have one of the single ended Pass amps your Pass class A amps are not pure class A but super rich class A/B amps that admittedly are rarely out of class A except on large peaks. ::: TOPIC:: .......

Separate ATC amps get very good reviews, not spectacular but they are far from 6 figure amps. But you also have to include that we are talking about active speakers with 2 special advantages both spea .......

I was told a few years ago by the owner/designer of very good tube amps that the KT88 tubes were significantly more linear that the newer KT type tubes. Linearity is king when it comes to fidelity. :: .......

It doesn't make sense to me. To have low bass fundamental to it is a low resonance frequency for the bass driver. This rare in such a small driver if it even exists. You'd have to make it a heavy cone .......

The KEF 104AB bass loading is a passive radiator which is basically a port substitute. And all ported woofers do become unloaded below woofer box resonance meaning they are visibly affected by record .......

Conventional speakers lose loudness with the square of the distance. Seven feet is a little more than two meters so the loudness is about 6 dB down from the standard rating(hope I got the math right!) .......

I'm far from a tube expert but I recall asking the BAT designer decades ago why the 6H30 was a 'super' tube. And his answer was that it was a linear tube with a very low output impedance so it didn't .......

Passive radiators are NOT a closed box nor acoustic suspension. They actually work just like a bass reflex. So the bass rolls off at 24 dB per octave like a reflex speaker, not 12 dB per octave like a .......

Look at the SEAS A26 kit from Madisound. I's a modern Dynaco A25. Technically it's not a closed box since it has a heavily stuffed port. But NO sound comes out of the port so the bas acts like a close .......

I've been told by a well known tube amp manufacturer that the KT-88 is a more linear tube than the KT-120 which is why he doesn't use the KT-120. .......

Only the smaller ATC speakers from the 40 series on down are closed box(but probably not acoustic suspension). All the larger ones are ducted ports. And the LS3/5As are closed box but with a Q over 1 .......
