Hi Poinz, I'll look into this but wouldn't the amplifier be humming all the time in that case? This is some kind of psu noise (from the rectifiers) picked up between pot and first grid (I think). HT r .......

Look carefully at the operating point you choose. Many people seem to run the 300B into 2K5 and in my view don't get the best from it that way. Less power but a far better sound can be got with a 5K l .......

Thanks, A large part of the hum etc seems to have been being picked up as a result of the proximity of the plate chokes to the filter chokes and probably the main psu transformer. Moving to a separate .......

FWIW Lowther used a permendur pole piece and outer ring on the PM4A magnet and get their 2.4T in the gap. They obviously felt it was worth it. .......

The Lowther PM4a uses it for the polepieces as does the Audio Note field coil MC cartridge. It's also why the Ale units are so expensive. Good luck! .......

Imai have been the Vitavox distributor in Japan for many years and probably still hold some stock of a few of the units. Vitavox is now owned by Secomak and I believe is no longer involved in the manu .......

I spent last week at the high-end show in Frankfurt, Germany. There were quite a few mid and HF horns in use there but the outstanding speakers were the Avant Gard Trio including 6 of the bass horns. .......

I agree completely. Everyone has different priorities. I personally can't understand why anyone would spend more than $10 on a watch! I often feel the best upgrade most audiophiles can make is to spen .......

sorry chaps but have to disagree with you here. While there are some very expensive cables that don't deliver there are also a few that do. The metallurgy involved is beyond my understanding but 'skin .......

A few years ago I was able to look around the Vitavox factory. They still then had the jigs and tooling required to cut out the component parts necessary to build up the various configurations of 220H .......

I spent a long afternoon/evening listening to them at UK reviewer Paul Messengers house some years ago. Good sense of scale and quite gentle delivery but some 'woody' or 'papery' colouration was audib .......

for a relatively low price I get very good results from the Audax PRO 170 paper driver (100dB sensitivity on a flat baffle.) I use it in a compound horn with a 330Hz tractrix on the front and a 65Hz S .......

My favourite is the Vitavox S2 which is to my ears gentler and more natural than the TAD drivers. I haven't heard Altec 288's on Altec horns though or any of the field coil drivers like WE555 or 594. .......

I use a 165mm Audax pro unit (100db)loaded by a tractrix front horn with a 330Hz Fc and to the rear by a 60Hz Hypex (Salmon) Horn. The driver I'm using needs a tweeter (JBL2405), which you shouldn't n .......
