Grundig and Telefunken both made oval shaped drivers of similar size that were used in their console and remote speakers. You might still have to find them on the Bay, but they should be a lot more pl .......

Concept 2.0 or 2.5 (20 & 25 WPC respectively). Dynaco A25s are an excellent match for either. Nice build quality, great sound, and clean lines that have a classic vintage look that is still fresh toda .......

It may seem obvious, but check to make sure the pre-main jumpers are in place. I've found more than one vintage receiver with no output where someone pulled them for some reason. .......

Kenwood KA-9100 integrated...gobs of power, and a very nice phono section. If you can find one, the KA-9150 is the bronze-faced version...gorgeous. The Kenwood receivers are winners too, with some of .......

I'd second the KLH 5 (or 6), and add the Dynaco A25. Another sleeper 2-way, believe it or not, is the Marantz Imperial 5. A great sounding speaker that I've used with the SX-626, 727, and 828. ::: TOP .......

While there are some notable exceptions (e.g. Sony CFD-5), the detachable speaker models were not generally built to the same standard of quality as the earlier types. They were also later production .......

Panasonic made some pretty amazing (for a boombox anyway) sounding units. The 5050 and 5150 are two that would serve your purpose nicely. Both have RCA inputs making "hacking" unnecessary to use them .......

If the Stromberg in the picture is your amp, you should check out the Stromberg SR-455 tuner I mentioned a few posts down. You'd need an outboard multiplex for true stereo in FM, but it's a great soun .......

Actually a pretty nice little all-in-one. I had one that I gave to my mom to use with a pair of Marantz Imperial 5 2-ways (still working beautifully). It has a pretty decent tuner in it and sounds nic .......

On the prior recommendations, I went back and re-cleaned everything with deoxit G5. I'm pretty sure the switches are clean and the distortion persists. Would the two main filter caps be a likely place .......

The A25s do sound great, but I run mine mostly with a pair of L100s. They make great use of the Sansui's power and will drive you from the room at anything much above 1/2 volume. I've paired it with S .......

Another vote for KLH 5 and 6, both of which I've acquired within the past year. Very impressed with the way they handle a wide variety of music. Dynaco A25s are also pretty impressive...a lot of bass .......

That's a tough one...The Sherwood is a tuner only, so I suppose it's sonic signature is colored to some extent by the choice of amp and preamp. I would describe the sound as detailed, but without bein .......

40x4 or 100x2 are the power specs. Unlike some of the earlier quads from Marantz, I think this one has the quad decoding integrated, not an outboard decoder like the SQA2. They sure are pretty, but ve .......

The KLH 6 should match well, also Marantz's own Imperial 5 are a very nice little 2 way. But for all around great sound, I'd probably go with the Dynaco A25...amazing little speaker. .......

I've used the 2220B with both the Dynaco A25 and Marantz Imperial 5 (nice two ways if you've never heard them). Both sound excellent, though the A25s do have the edge in the bass department. I don't t .......

Yep, those Marantz tape monitor switches have a penchant for gathering crud. I've "fixed" a couple of 2230s by giving them a good cleaning. .......

Are you sure you have the correct model number? The L65 (also sold as the L65A and Jubal) used either the 12" 126A or 122A woofer, LE-5 midrange, and the famed 077 prism tweeter. I've owned two pairs .......

I've had both and I actually prefer the 1009. Mine is a slightly modified early model. The early 1009 had a hard-wired RCA cable from the tonearm wires to the preamp. The later 1009SK didn't have quit .......

The Mini Advents sound pretty good with just about every 15-30 wpc SS receiver or amp I've paired them with (Pioneer, Kenwood, Marantz, Scott, HK to name a few). Measure roughly 11"h X 7"w X 5"d. ::: .......

Only owned a 2252B for a short period of time before I flipped it (didn't care much for the "updated" styling). Owned both the the 2230 and 2230B, and much preferred the B model. Same general cosmetic .......

A while back, I picked up the black and chrome version of the Stereo 60 with the matching SR-455 AM/FM tuner. The tuner is kind of cool. It's an AM tuner on its own chassis, and an FM tuner on its own .......

The caps are 8 mfd 50v, non-polarized. On mine they were installed with little wire nuts, making the change out a piece of cake. Non-polarized makes it easy because it doesn't matter which direction y .......

The phono section on the KA-9100 is excellent, so I presume the KA-8100 would be similar (though the 8100 lacks meters). Can't speak to the others from personal experience, but I never met a Kenwood I .......

Yep...That's how you do it. I'd second FedEx and the styro-sheet insulation from Home Depot. Works great for heavy amps and receivers too. I've never lost an item to shipping damage packaging this way .......

If you are interested in JBL, consider also the L65 (aka the Jubal). It uses the 122a woofer (essentially a long throw version of the 123a), the LE5 midrange, and the legendary 077 tweeter. The box is .......

Well, I'll try and tackle a few of these. 1) Stacking receivers directly on top of each other is not the best idea for two reasons - Air circulation: Building a receiver sandwich doesn't allow the air .......

I would add the SX-636 to the hunt as well. A tad less power than the 626 at 25wpc, but better distortion specs. Also, it has standard spring loaded speaker clips in place of Pioneer's proprietary plu .......

As a follow-up to jtpzenith's post, I'd check out that tape monitor switch real closely. Use some deoxit on it and work it back and forth several times. Also, check to see if there is a monitor level .......

The original is a 6.3v 40mA. Apparently you need to be careful to use the correct lamp or there is a danger you could short out the decoder IC in some models...not sure if yours is one of them. Anyway .......

From a pure power standpoint, the Pioneer has quite a bit more than the Sansui. 160 watts RMS to the Sansui's 120. The sound quality and durability are at least equal to the Sansui and as far as resal .......

Id look at the Kenwoods...The KT-7500 and occasionally KT-8005 can both be found on eBay in your price range. Both have 5 gang tuners, and multiple filters for cleaning up the signal. Great selectivit .......

It will be either a 6.3 volt or 8 volt...Look to see if there is any writing on the wire leads. The fuse lamps used in the old Pioneer equipment were 8 volt which leads me to suspect the grain might b .......

Bob's correct...I have a pair of 70s. Great speakers, but they don't need a lot of power to sound great. Too much and you'll cook the drivers. I have run mine on my Sansui 9090, but never much past 1/ .......

Oh yeah...I have a Sansui 5000a....pretty compact, very cool blacked out glass face, and looks sooo nice in the walnut case...Typical Sansui build quality...like a tank! Usually very affordable on eBa .......

I'd have to agree with the "old fart"...My 500-C has little metal sleeves that slip over the dial lamps to reflect the light forward (toward the dial) through the clear, unobstructed side of the bulb. .......

Check this one out...Altec 711a (one just sold on eBay for $128) Tiny footprint...seriously about 1 1/2 foot wide, maybe a foot deep, and a 1/2 foot tall. Add to that a 4-gang tuner section and about .......
