Sure. Each of the digital inputs on the DAC 2 are designed with a (approximate) 3 db "headroom" that didn't apply to the USB input. That was an addition, "max gain in all digital modes is now the same .......

The headphone amp in the DAC2 HGC is the same as the one in the DAC1. It's a much better DAC but I find the amp is nothing to write home about. .......

A matter of taste, but I prefer mine to the MMGs. Not sure, but they may have been the last model to have had the diaphragm in the back, which could help explain the relative roll off compared to the .......

Interesting question. I gather that Mylar is pretty stable over a wide temperature range. It's in a steel frame which is also stable. I'm not sure about MDF as opposed to hardwoods, but the MDF is alm .......

It may well be. I'm not sure (heh) how the V-15 VxMR compares to the VMR. The SAS stylus is clearly a more modern, and maybe more extreme, example. The 2MB stylus is about as modern as you can get, IM .......

The only big surprise I saw there was that the Anna plus Caliburn didn't do better. For the $50 to $1000 range it worked out as I'd expect. I picked the 2M Black, by the way, which isn't too suprising .......

I think their TASCAM DV-RA1000HD is a brilliant product. I haven't had much experience with their consumer stuff, though. The UD-501 DAC has gotten some favorable mentions as well. .......

I'm using two Glyph GPT-50s (2 TB sized). I use the eSATA interface but they also have Firewire 800 and come with a Firewire cable. They are preformatted for Mac. The drives are Seagate Barracudas, 72 .......

Once you have the files on your hard drive at, say, 24/192, you can burn a CD-R at 16/44 no problem. There's no advantage to limiting your LP rips to 16/44. .......

USB in/USB out looks good in theory. Depends on the computer design of course. I've found that separate buses work much better, eg eSATA or SATA in, USB out. That was a learning curve for me, I hope t .......

Even the 1.6 can be driven to surprisingly high levels, in excess of a measured 90 dB with a 500 wpc amp (which I assume means the actual peaks are in excess of 100 dB). I haven't done this often but .......

I don't think it's a mobo issue, the hardware is a v-link 192. All of the multiples of 44 and 48 are supported at 16 bits. 44 is supported at 24 bits as are the 48 multiples. Could be the Thesycon dri .......

Well, I prefer vinyl. But I'll normally rip the vinyl at 192/24 or 96/24 and put it on a hard drive. In that way I save in two ways, one, the digital copy is better than the equivalent CD (normally), .......

The TASCAM DV-RA1000HD will do AD conversion with balanced inputs. It's not inexpensive at US$1300 but it's not unreasonably expensive either. It pretty much takes the pain out of digitizing LPs. .......

The basic ones are the Musical Fidelity V-Link and the Halide Bridge, the latter more expensive. Either will give you 24 bit 96 kHz USB to S/PDIF conversion. Whether they'll work with Linux is unclear .......

I refuse to wring my hands over preference issues. CD was designed as a mid-fi medium compared to LP and RTR tape but in some cases has improved over time as DACs and recording techniques got better. .......

You might take a look at the Sennheiser HD-380s. They come with a case and can be driven by most portable devices. I find them good but not as good as HD600s. They're better than OK if you dislike IEM .......

Well, here's how it went. The V-Link clock arbitrates the USB bus as it is designed and there are no dropouts or slowdowns in the music. In short everything is on spec and works well. The TOSLINK work .......
