As we all know those 26's are pretty power hungry little tubes. I just could not find a good SS heater to meet my demands,cause To have enough gain for my DHT final stage, one 26 wouldn't cut it. S .......

I only have (2) 3 stage amps ,a Single section Triode 6SN7 Directly coupled to a 2A3 I.T. coupled to an 845,it sounds pretty good. But not as good as any of my 2 Stage amps. The other 3 stage 26 c .......

Flat plates, formed (bent), coatings, not to mention Mesh or perforated, all can effect the sound. Having never heard a true WE 300B. How do you Gauge the quantity of value each 300B tube brings ? .......

Those do look rather skrimpy ...... the ones I used I got from a local hardware store ... they were at least twice as wide as these, and they weren't cheap a buck 14 ea. That's why it was so cos .......

I try to used a copper solder terminal with a 5/8" hole. I also use a copper flat washer and a SS lock washer under the head of the 8mm Brass bolt. Good listening ! Willie .......

Hi Chris My GPA Altec 604's are in approx. 7 cu/ft. MLTL cabinets, I would guess they run about 102db to 104db efficiency ! Willie .......

Well after spending the last 3 days playing with different DC heater supplies for the 26's on my 26-26 DC 45 amp..... for the last 5 months I've been AC heating the 26 heaters with the Hum.... .......

I now have an all AC filament heated 28-26 DC 45 amp sounding great. I found I did not need a cap between the two 26 tubes. and I DID NOT bypass the Rk on the first 26. This pretty much follows .......

Years ago I had my 420's recone-ed with 416 cones, a little Duct Tape on the back side of the Ceramic magnet .......and you got your 416. They're mounted in my Valencia cabinets and sound great. .......

Yo 85 Those inline filters are not on the Type 45's, they are on the Type 26 pairs. The Type 45 filaments just use Modified Hammond 166M2's the 2.5vct @ 3amp tranny. The secondary's tied directly .......

I installed a 10-turn Hum-pot on each pair of 26's on my 26-26 DC45 amp.... the results were very good, the hum level on my Ver.#2 amp dropped to almost nothing ... Thanks Vinnie! Willie ::: TOP .......

Take your time and figure out a good layout for your amp and use double runs of 12ga. mil spec. wire for B1, B+ and ground. That will Help! Willie .......

Hi George Yes I've heard K-horns on several occasion. A friend here in St. Louis has a couple of pairs of K-horns. JMHO K-horns seem to lack that dynamic effect that a non-folded LF front horn .......

This is what I settled with instead of going a more expensive way of the 2 Stage all DHT amp. Until you've heard an all DHT amp, this may mean nothing to you if you don't have Hi-Efficiency speak .......

My experience with the new version of the 125ESE has been totally different. First off the new 125ESE are almost twice the size of the originals they can actually handle 15 watts.. On my GPA 604's .......

For a low power system ( like an SET amp ) the Altecs would work better. Overall JBL's tend to be a little less efficient a system than Altec 604's. Have fun Willie .......

Yes it ( my Amp) will play without the bias resistor, but it will exhibit some instability. This would show as one channel not playing at times, or would fade out sometimes when playing at highest .......

Thanks for your thoughtful replies. I have been using an active preamp for awhile, but sometimes I do like the clean sound with just a passive. I guess for now it's just whether I need it louder. Ha .......

that SV811 amp to use the 250 triodes... Those 250's can operate at 450vdc and 55ma with a 5K load it's a good OP for them...... I'm sure they would sound better than the 811's or the 572's...... J .......

Yeah Bas the chokes are small, if you look closely at the drawing you can see how the choke are oriented in the layout. ... The goal was to fit them all in where they would cause the least amount of .......

Maybe you should go a little further...... maybe try a 183 or 483 instead of the 45, just double the filament voltage.. Or a type 50 instead of the 45 , a little more involved, increase the plate .......

Hi Thomas The OPT has a 4.8K primary, I used the 4 ohm tap on my 8 ohm speakers. I think that works for 10's in my amp. Have fun Willie .......

I used thick 3/8" Teflon , like the ebay stuff to mount my 845 sockets. The socket was attached to the Teflon , then the assembly was mounted under the chassis. Have Fun Willie .......
