The Rubinstein approach seems most common. You might like the Bishop-Kovacevich... But I agree that Moravec is the best. Too bad he didn't record all the late Brahms. .......

The SQ by Cesar Franck is wonderful. If you like his Piano Quintet, you've got to hear this. I have a nice LP by the Fitzwilliam sq, but haven't been able to find any other performances. .......

I attended a live cycle by the Cleveland Quartet back in the 70s which was great. I like the RCA LPs too. I find them more on the energetic than on the refined side. .......

I think I like the Stern best as well, though the Suk set is very nice. The performance of the Dminor by Oistrakh/Richter is very fine, but I don't think there is recording of the whole set by them... .......

THanks for the suggestions. I think the VPI fluid (with 25% alcohol) eventually cleans through. But I wonder what is causing the beading up in the first place? Some kind of factory vinyl treatment? .......

On about every tenth lp I do on my VPI with VPI solution, the cleaning fluid beads up (like water on a waxed car). Why?? Is this an effect of mould releasing compound? This makes the record harder t .......

Sure, the CD burning makes sense as one tool for comparing components. But MF was supposed to have claimed (I haven't looked at the article recently) that his CD-R sounded better than an original CD! .......

Ummm, how about the woodie M2? I'm pretty happy with mine on a VPI arm. It is, as the name suggests intermediate between the L2 and H2. It's output is about 0.8 .......

As I came across this thread, I was listening to a VG+ LSC-2737, Heifetz/Piatigorsky. On my system this yields beautiful air and separation with a particularly convincing soundstage. But I agree that .......
