Thanks. I am using a SUT but I also listen a fair amount to digital. The Rothwell -10db attenuators b/w pre and amps has addressed the issue for both sources and, if anything, has had a positive effec .......

Quick postscript. I ordered some Rothwells attenuators to help with the gain issue. I'm very happy with them. They do exactly what I wanted them to do — lower gain so I have more flexibility on my pre .......

Inserted the SP-8 into the system and it sound very good. It has a ton of gain, though. I adjusted the knobs on my amps and now it is all dialed in. .......

Thanks! I'm definitely open to suggestions of gear where the manufacturer predates the early 70s so long as the recommended product came out in the 70s. .......

Follow up: I ended up with a quad of Amperex (made in Holland) 12AU7s and they sound mighty fine to me. Rest of the tubes are (reissue) Gold Lion KT66s and dual bottom getter RCA 5R4GYs. Very pleased .......

Quick follow up on my earlier message. I now have the matching sub. In a word: incredible. The bass is very quick and tuneful, with seamless integration. I have the sub off to the left of the 2 speake .......
