The SA-4 was based on a circuit design by Roger Modjeski that was done either right near the end of his time or just after he left Beveridge (HBI). Roger gained a lot of experience from working at HBI .......

I attended one of the Bob Crump Memorial get togethers in 2010 and sat with Mr. Loesch. I found him to be an engaging and knowledgeable person, I quite an entertaining time with him. .......

I never heard any of the above referenced amps so I cannot offer an opinion. However, it is known by many that Don Garber (Fi) and Don Allen build fine products. .......

How much do you want to spend? We make a nice 45 amp and although it is an integrated amp we could build one without the preamp section and volume control for less cost. It includes a high pass filter .......

Jack gets about 40 watts into 8 ohms with the 211 A2. It uses an opamp as the driver rather than tubes. That's also the reason for the 10k load. I've borrowed his 211 monoblocks and had them in my sy .......

Have you checked the incoming voltage at various times of the day? Just about every environment suffers from voltage fluctuations, some pretty severely. In my environment I get a consistent 120 - 122V .......

I started using the PEs about 4 years ago when they originally came out for consumer use. At the time I had a RSA Haley. I used a PE on every circuit, 4 total, and then plugged my gear into the Haley. .......

The new Running Springs Audio Elgar should be worth a try. I previously used the Haley with great results and am now considering the Elgar. I currently use Alan Maher PEs and CBFs as well. ::: TOPIC:: .......

The ideal output impedance from a source that the Lightspeed likes to see is less than 200 ohms. It doesn't mean a higher output impedance won't work, but it is less likely to. My phono is 100 ohms so .......

I use a passive preamp with my analog set-up and it does just fine. Having a phono stage with flexible gain settings is helpful in this regard. .......

Very astute observation on the tone control. The only thing I can think of that an active preamp should do and do well is control the interconnect. Meaning a well designed active preamp should neutral .......

I have several and someone told me that these were made with pieces of lead inside a wooden box. Should be easy to DIY. Alternately you could try fabricating some using Mu metal or transformer laminat .......

It's a good magnetic passive preamp for the money. That being said I built a Slagleman autoformer based preamp (see link) for less money that sounds excellent. I'm not a DIYer but the slagleman's were .......

Until recently, the 1/2e was the best speaker I ever heard in my system. I used mine on Sound Anchor stands and IMO that provided additional benefits. While I don't dispute they could be used with low .......

That's why you should consider getting a TVC or AVC as Ozzie mentioned. Less hassle with figuring out which position the volume knob should work optimally, as well as much more forgiving of impedance .......

My Lightspeed was built for me by the designer George Stantscheff who uses closely matched optocouplers. He also built mine using dual volume controls. I'm not having any of the problems you mentioned .......

I personally never had much luck with my Spendors more than 8' apart. The center image became a bit diffuse. You could try moving them a foot closer. You would not necessarily have to move your listen .......

I used the Monarchy M24 and found it to be an excellent DAC (requires a good transport) and an adequate preamp. It's shortfalls as a preamp IMO are mainly due to its volume control and high gain. Pers .......

Most of what I've read was on blown capacitors, bad boards, and extremely noisy transformers. Root causes were never clear. The EC amps in general are not a lot of fun to work on according to a couple .......

1.5" was not large enough and there wasn't a 1.75" sizing. So I had to get 2" and then bought some foam weather stripping to line the inside of the tube so it fit snugly on the IEC plug. .......

I had a P-300 and was not satisfied with it. It did color the sound in my system, always ran hot, and the fan was loud. The Furman and Exact Power would be better options IMO. .......
