Don't know about newer digital releases, but I got the Genesis 1970-1975 "green box" and find it pretty disappointing. Sounds thin and lifeless to me in general, the "original" LPs (Canadian versions) .......

I went lame and replaced the LPs with CDs, then files. I prefer the original Ryko Bowie CDs to the later ones, but then I just stopped comparing. Still prefer the LPs for some Bowie stuff though. ::: .......

Raw Power is what it is (I must have had this LP for 50 years), and I still prefer Bowie's mix of it. As for "Man...", this is one of the original vinyl packagings that I've also had for around 50 yea .......

Me too. Once had a GF ('80s) and he was probably our favorite author. Very hard to find his stuff even back then, pre-amazon etc., we usually had to go to used book stores and make do with some pretty .......

Me too. Try the Planters crunchy. I'm pretty sure it's actually made by Kraft, not sure if it's available outside Canada, amazon has it. It's a good substitute for the Skippy crunchy which is no longe .......

If you go SVS, I'd recommend 2 slightly smaller subs for around the same cost as one (very) large one. If you can work with that, if it fits your room. Strictly because it's easier to get a better bas .......

Also recommend, works well with the USB->S/PDIF thing, up to 192/24 only of course. Note that D10s has three *outputs*, RCA audio and coaxial/optical S/PDIF, from the USB input. I keep one in my toolb .......

I doubt I've ever used an Arduino when it wasn't gross overkill. The point is it's faster and easier than plain hardware. I mean, even a PIC was overkill for most of my gadgets, and the Arduino is muc .......

I sometimes use them. I program/test on a 2560 and then transfer to one of the teensy ones ( I tend to use the little modules you can get in kits for Arduino, they are ridiculously cheap and very usef .......

If you mean ripped in the sense of creating a digital file to play, then no, it will not be HDCD. HDCD requires hardware to play back correctly/as intended. Still will probably sound pretty good thoug .......

It sounds like I have a similar setup to yours in a system, an RPi4 feeding a D90 via USB. The auto on/off does work. [Select Auto On, save and exit, then turn the D90 power off/on at the rear switch. .......

That is my main criticism of the D90. And a zillion other DACs made there. If it had the discrete output circuitry of the "other" DAC brand I mentioned below, I probably would have nothing the slighte .......

My Pi 2/3 HAT/shield is the HiFiBerry one with two Toslink and two RCA/coax jacks. I never tried the Pi 3 with this item into the D90, I only got the D90 last fall. I am happy to hear the Pi 4 -> D90 .......

FWIW I like to use small "isolation" units, a separate one for each major component when possible. Especially to keep the digital sources away from the analog ones, and to keep stuff with motors away .......

Agree, some of the "compatible" bipolar chips sound very nice biased into class-A, nicely smooth. Also a fair bit hotter, which I usually think is good for SS amps of any size, SQ-wise. I find it hard .......

That has sort of been my experience with batteries/DACs. Though I could live with the sonics, especially with 'phones, I didn't think the hassle was worth it. Different battery chemistries sound diffe .......

Yes, the QB-9 had a nicely designed input, and special interface software IIRC for dealing with the USB connection. I think the USB interfaces on PCs vary widely though, and probably even moreso on la .......

I would have to agree about the HPF, it is very worthwhile to keep the lowest stuff out of (especially) the Maggies. Measure and you will see absolutely why. Listen after the HPF install and all becom .......

Yeah, those HDMI audio extractors are not bad. I use a monoprice one and I can't really complain, pulling SACD at 88kHz LPCM and 24/192 off of BDs. It's the only worthwhile extractor you can get in Ca .......

I think you were thinking the players don't do digital out of SACD over *S/PDIF*. The Oppos don't do that either, just DSD (or converted to LPCM) over HDMI. [Some older Oppo players will only do DSD- .......

Hmmm, I find that feeding the center channel audio to the L/R speakers (i.e. "stereo" front) actually anchors the audio to the display better than using a center channel speaker. Maggie fronts; I find .......

That is a good cable. I would suggest that beppe61 use that one, or glass at least. I find that plastic generally sounds a bit "dull" to me, maybe that could be used to advantage though in some cases. .......

My unit is older than the 224, it's a 119. I used to use it to record bands and my own stuff (@15ips) in the late 70s/early 80s. So all the tapes I still have from then need dbx to play them back prop .......

Yup. I save the WAVs on one backup HD (a more expensive supposedly better one), and the FLACs on a cheaper backup HD. I do't have anywhere near 3k CDs though. I am bad and sometimes take the smaller/c .......

What do you think of the SQ of this, specifically the DTS-HD MA 5.1 tracks? I am unfamiliar with any of EJ's recordings' SQ as this is the only one I have. Heard the mch remixing by Bob Ludwig is good .......

True. But if it is a watermark, when e.g. HDTracks sees a file somewhere it shouldn't be, and runs it through their "decoder ring", it would easily spit out the answer. They've gotta be doing somethin .......

Could there be code embedded in the 28kHz signal? Have you looked at the 28kHz signal in the time domain? Does it spell out HDTracks in some code every so often? Or is Jimmy really dead? .......

Unfortunately I don't have a computer with a general (audio) digital input, except USB. So I'd have to get some interface gadget and use USB somehow. I didn't realize those topics you mentioned at the .......

I'm a "generation" back of you with the players/DAC: 1's. I can definitely say that playing the CDs on my best CDP *does* sound a tiny bit better, and that is through the same DAC using the same AES/E .......

I am more interested in the new CDs (actually 44/16 rips of them) vs the 96/24 versions. Since I have been convinced by comments here and everywhere else they're decent remasters, and those are my eff .......

It's almost 10X the speed I get out here in the boonies, being almost 5 miles from Toronto, a small Canadian city. AA pages load instantly for me, so it ain't your download speed that's the problem. : .......

I can't answer your question, but you have building codes (you're in CA still?) that are rather strict. And here they're strict, probably not as strict as yours (but we get more snow...) but you still .......

...none are bad, even if not the "best" in a given type/category, they're always up there though. Can't say that for just about any other brand. I have P Zeros on one car now (OEM), Yokos on another. .......

Try the not-that-old "In Bruges" and/or "Seven Psychopaths". Don't watch them too close together, as, though they are totally different, you will notice the huge similarities in style (same writer/dir .......

Seems like you have enough gear to make a large/quality inverter worthwhile. Might sound a little less good than regular AC, or maybe better depending, but you can get some pretty decent sine outputs .......

Yup, also think Kyuss was better. And they were kinda sleep-inducing compared to what I usually listen to. That's their style. I don't hate the Queens though, they just don't get me going in any way, .......
