Looks like my MMG took an impact and damaged the tweeter. Have yet to pull the socks off. Can I just repair that section or is it a whole tweeter ribbon replacement? Will call Magnepan tomorrow and .......

So the big issue with soldering aluminum is the quick oxidation of the metal. I was replacing all the wires on my build so I didn't want to chance it. To much heat and you start melting components aro .......

There are two adhesives used in Magnepan construction. The first is to set the wires to the mylar in place. This is the 3m77 of the DAP weldwood stuff. Once this is done then the entire panel is cover .......

On the contrary. There are a number of computer fans out there that move a surprising amount of air with little to no noise. I also think about the cooling in a pro amp. The fan has to cool the amp wh .......

My Ashly FTX had a factory AC fan that was noisy. I replaced it with a super quiet DC computer fan and just used an ac adapter to run it. This eliminated any motor activity from the amps power circuit .......

I ended up with an EVG OM replacement stylus. These are Japanese made pieces. It was an inexpensive diamond elliptical - so at least in the short term I am back up and running. .......

The room is bright, but I have not found it problematic in most listening situations. It was a little more sensitive with the 3As as they had ribbon tweeters. .......

I looked into powder coating my MG3A stands, when I switched from white socks to black. Most places wanted over $250 to do them, the paint job has held up quite well. As much as I would like a powder- .......

I did a number of tests on a separate piece of wood with a bunch of different stains. I didn't expect the one I choose to become so purple. I will sand and start over, trying not to make a career out .......

i would describe the bass as almost non existent, when listening to music. Up close the panel seems to be doing what its supposed to - but there is very little energy behind it. Here is a video of the .......

I gave up on the NAD amps a long time ago. I am currently running an Ashly FTX 2001, which gives me 500 watts @ 4 ohms. Both panels came in at about 4.3 ohms impedance when I checked. .......

No. I do use the external crossover but for the purposes of testing I ran the bass panel right from the amp and it didn't change the bass output. .......

I have long suspected that my MGIIIA were not doing what they were supposed to. I got to listen to MMG, .7 and 1.7 today and I have a problem with my speakers as even the MMG puts out more bass. -Both .......

The sub is fed by a separate pre-out off the pre-amp, so the speakers are getting a full range signal. I checked the impedance and they both came in about 4.2 ohms. I will try the change in polarity o .......

I removed the factory a/c fan and put in a quiet computer d/c fan. Wired it up to a small a/c adapter and it runs all the time. The fan is inaudible. It probably doesn't offer as much cooling as the f .......

I would assume the aluminum that makes up the ribbons is susceptible to the same corrosion that the regular wires are. I ended up doing a complete rewire a few years ago and figured at some point and .......

Well - that was pretty simple detective work. You can see in the pic that the ribbon tweeter is smoked. I am assuming these are original to the speakers - so I guess 25 years out of a set of tweeters .......

I recently moved my speakers and set them up. Noticed that the left one was sounding different. Checked the fuse on the tweeter and it was blow. Replaced it and I still have no sound from the tweeter. .......

The manual states normal fuses - which I assume to be a fast blow fuse, and it calls for 2.5 amp rating - which is what I am running. The amp is giving me 500w at 4 ohms, and its done it with other am .......

Would most consider the B&K a lateral move from the PL400 or an upgrade? I know the Mosfet outputs of the B&K are known to soften the sound a bit. I do think that the current setup is a little bright. .......

I just ordered a replacement 8" driver for my 9se MkII directly from Paradigm, did they say they just don't service them anymore ? I think thr tweeter is the same from the 3,5,7,9,11 SE MkII series - .......

When I would play the 1450 at moderate levels it would warm up to the point that the fan was on high. I also would see the clipping indicators start to flash about the 50% gain mark, dependent on type .......

I am seeing the clipping indicators come on at not so high a volume level, any bass heavy content is tripping the clip indicators as well. I think that I need to listen to a few other amps before I co .......

I will double check the impedance when I get home tonight. When I started this endeavor - I asked Magnepan about just sending in the panels, and they said no. They wanted the whole speaker to confirm .......

That is what Magnepan calls for, right in their instructions. One coat of #77 to hold the wires in place and then two light coats of the 3M contact adhesive. .......

I am going to need to upgrade my amps. My bridged NAD 3155 has a protection circuit problem and was looking at the DH-220. I have heard that you cannot use these bridged as they cannot drive anything .......

I called the company - Kapp Alloy. They have a 390 degree solder that they recommended with their special flux. The alumite product ended up being a heavy stick material. Will see how it works and rep .......
