Thank you for that info. I didn't realize that full digital recordings had no hiss (I'm assuming the same is true for digital recordings before 1992 when they were converted back and forth into analog .......

After writing this I'm thinking that soon it will probably be possible to remove hiss and other artifacts from recorded material using A.I. without affecting the quality of the music. .......

For me it means that I'm getting the full import of the recording. It seems that in some cases noise reduction is used in producing CDs, and I also notice it with certain audio equipment. Zero noise m .......

There are apparently different methods of upconverting to DSD. I used the discontinued Sonicstage Mastering Studio software on Sony Vaio PCs and their upconversion to DSD was horrible. dB Poweramp see .......

its built into the vaio pc...wmp plays dsf files in "sound reality" enabled computers. after burning a dsd disc it can be played in computers that support wma-hd audio. i don't know of any component p .......

I think the most we can hope for for the bulk of recordings is a DSD mastered standard audio CD. Artist that care about the sound of their work will chose DSD--but selling SACDs just is not practical, .......

I agree with you. For the most part I am happy with the sound quality from my iRiver HDD-based player. If they could squeeze a DSD bitstream onto a Sony Network Walkman that would just about do it for .......

SACD may parallel MD in that it does well in Europe and Japan but staggers in the US. I would be happy to pay the extra money to get good releases from Europe vs. not getting them at all. .......

According to Apple, the default for mp3 (when mp3 itself was the default format for iTunes...pre-AAC) was 160 kbs. But--to really get equivalent sound quality one should use the LAME mp3 encoder with .......

I just assumed that if the upconversion was part of a 1-bit dac, then the 16 bit 44.1 kHz signal would be converted into a 1.41 Mbps bitstream before being converted into a 2.82 Mbps DSD bitstream. :: .......

SACD will stick around for the niche market--the big boys will only release titles if they think they can sell stacks of them. Mobile Fidelity and others may get a chance to release more of them once .......

I think that generally DSD upsampling for Redbook CDs is a good idea--the premise being that you can achieve better (if not SACD quality) sound using regular CDs. But unfortunately there is a serious .......

I think eventually even the DACs on PCDPs will be good enough give a smooth sound...not that most people will appreciate it. Considering how far the digital medium has come in 20 years, IF they contin .......

personally i think that improved dac's (including upsampling to dsd) will be the savior of true hi-fidelity sound. when such hardware is available at a reasonable price there is no reason why everyone .......

Sony wants what is good for Sony--that is why they split with the DVD-A forum. Until they can come up with a format that sounds like an analog record at 128kbs I don't think everyone will be happy. :: .......

I'm not saying that this is the final word, but Waterlily Acoustics, which used to be a bastion of analog afficionadoes recently switched to DSD recording, despite their heavy investment in and endors .......

That may be true, but in their review of the dCS stack--the reviewer felt that one classic jazz CD sounded on par with the album--taking into account that the cd was made from a 2nd generation master. .......

The Sony SCD-CE595. It has digital out--sounds fairly decent, and Tube Research Labs does a highly recommended modding for it at a fair price. And it's a changer;) .......

DVD Decrypter has some good feature for extracting content from DVDs, if you can figure it out. Sometimes DVD have "dummy sectors" and other features to inhibit copying. DVD Decrypter does a good job .......

Strange..when I had my DVP-S9000ES I couldn't stand listening to CDs because the treble was so rolled off. SACDs were so much more vibrant and engaging. Maybe you'll warm to it... .......

I had the chance to go with a 7.1 system but I opted for 2.1 instead. At some point virual speaker technology will make multi-speaker setups unnecessary. I think Sony has a 2.1 system that even suppor .......

I don't understand why the SACD specs don't allow the entire contents of the disc to be used for 2-channel audio. I'm assuming that even with 149 minutes of 2 channel audio there is still space reserv .......

You should check out allofmp3.com. They are legal, (at least according to the Russian copyright laws) and they have extremely high bit rate mp3s (which you will need the MAD plugin to play) as well as .......
