To figure out the bass panel wiring orientation - simply connect a standard D-cell (1 1/2v) to the bass panel connectors. If the panel moves forwards when the battery is connected ... then the drive .......

It seemed to me, Mike, that the horizontal bars of the ribbon cage (which Magnepan place at the front, to protect the ribbon) must be negatively affecting the sound. So it is better to reverse them; .......

I've never known how many watts I'm actually using ... do you have meters on your power amps, that tell you 20w? Or are you saying you use an amp specced at 20w, to drive your T-IVs? .......

I would think probably worse ... as the 1.6QR used the 1/4" wide "quasi ribbon" on the mylar for the tweeter (at least!); the T-1D used the old-style, round-wire. .......

Yes, IMO the true ribbon would make the IIIA a significant step up from 2-way QR models. The only thing wrong with IIIAs (and probably 3.3s/3.5s) is that the glue which Magnepan used back in those day .......

If you want an "upgrade" then a model which has a true-ribbon (as distinct from the 'quasi ribbon'!) is the option to go for. So your option A would include: * 2.5s * 2.6s * IIIAs * 3.3s * 3.5s * 3.6s .......

I do too (mounted with another, 12" UP, on my TT). The Unitrac is a radical design in that the downward-facing spike sits in a ball-race ... rather than a sapphire cup. Brilliant engineering by Magnep .......

I didn't realise the Superline allowed load plugs. Interesting your Proteus likes 100R (100x coil impedance). Have you ever tried higher-value plugs - like 220R or 470R? (You might get more 'airyness' .......

I think I would probably agree that the major improvement is actively bi-amping . Going to tri-amping, yes, is an advantage IMO - but nowhere near the improvement you get from going from passive XO b .......

Quite simple: * 24dB slopes require the sub(s) and the satellites to be connected in the same phase - whilst 12dB slopes require one of those to be inverted. and * 24dB slopes mean there's less of .......

My view is that a D79 simply doesn't have the power to drive the bass panels optimally. If there is a 200w or 250w 'big brother' of the D79 to use on the bass panels - then that would be a different .......

I suggest it depends how you go about setting up subs. If your Maggies are, say, 6dB down at 50Hz and you roll off your subs at 50Hz ... you will get only a little bit of audible overlap. This method .......

I would've thought that device would be able to give you a 222mm distance from the spindle? But, yes, all it is ... is a simple measurement (to the centre of the spindle). Andy .......

The importer said that new ribbon material will be installed in the 3-ohm ribbon cages he received a couple of weeks ago ... this week. :-)) So 'cross fingers'! :-)) Andy .......

Not everybody feel competent to change the 47K load reses generally used in a MM phono stage - in which case, the load provided is (as you say) 470 ohms with a 1:10 SUT ... and 118 ohms, with a 1:20 S .......

Possibly, Opus 33 1/3, the 'Piccolo' does not have a -120dB noise figure? The AKSA 'Paris' (which I supply built up, ever since the designer (Hugh Dean) had a serious medical episode about 8 years ago .......

Wow, yes the AT ART-7 certainly is low output (0.12mV)! I can't find any specs for the AT504ml cartridge - so can't advise which would be 'better'. However, I'm one who prefers head amps to SUTs - t .......
