If you closed your eyes and listened to my Conrad Johnson Classic 2SE, you wouldn't be able to tell if it was a tube or SS. It;s razor sharp with no hint of tube sound. .......

The beam tetrode KT77 has a sound that is more in line with what you're already hearing in the KT120's. I was never a fan of that tube. In short the KT will not bring out the midrange that a EL34 can .......

If you're a tube guy then you're not going to be happy with any SS. Especially a class D. You should also consider a EL84 based amp. Even though it's small it does pack a punch for 20w. Nothing!!! sou .......

I find as an integrated amp its warm and sweet sounding but not the last word on detail. I bypassed the preamp section and only use the amp section with a buffer as a "pre". As with almost any EL84 it .......

I looked at the schematic. Yamaha used individual LED's for that bar display. There is a controller chip IC562 TA751-2AP. I did a search and couldn't find any. Maybe you can pull up more info by readi .......

The short answer is NO. Does it do this on one speaker or two? The Bass and Loudness are a very simple circuit. Something else is at play here. And I would suggest both the PAS and amp be checked out. .......

Those display boards are most likely still available from either Mouser of DigiKey. Can you pull the LED module and see if there are any part numbers on it? Also, are you sure it's the display? There' .......

The most common causes of what you are describing is improper setting of both the cutoff and volume. What you are hearing is "hash" from the sub not cutting off the top end - and playing it too loud. .......

I think if you're going to go with a receiver, the 70's receivers were pretty much at the top of their game. By that I mean in actual sound quality. Having said that, newer receivers are kind of made .......

If you're going to leave these amps on 24 7 that could be a problem. Those amps run in Class A and generate heat just sitting there. Actually Class A generates a tremendous amount of heat. That's kind .......

I've tried replacing the rectifier tube in a few old Dynaco's and never cared for the sound. I eventually reversed it and went back with the tube rectifier. Just my two cents when it comes to that act .......

It's highly improbable that both the amp and preamp would display the same symptoms. Other than your testing source being the problem, the only other way both sections failed is a power board componen .......

My second suggestion is a good push pull EL84 based amp. Nothing sounds as nice as a good EL84 tube!!! I listen to classical on my Sherwood S5000 EL84 amp and never had a problem with larger orchestra .......

Go to your local pharmacy and look for foot gel pads, aka metatarsal pads. They have a silicon soft pad inside that works great. You can also look into Gel seat cushions. But they could flatten out. .......

It would seem that your amp is sensitive enough to use the signal from your DAC without any additional gain. If it sounds good it may even be impedance compatible AND you already have a way of control .......

Start simple. Get a bunch of fuses. Pull all the tubes and put a new fuse in. Put only the rectifier tube in If the fuse blows then most likely you need a new one. If the fuse held then put in the out .......

I've been very happy with my Marantz NA7004 for the last 8 or so years. Great sound and looks great. I think the new ones even have a built in digital volume output control. I think??? .......

WIMA MKP series is a nice audio cap. I've used them in various projects and never had an issue with their sound. And yes, I use other high end caps in projects when I'm able to use them. .......

Don't use a passive because that never works out long term. You need a buffer to smooth out the cable and source impedance issues. Here's what I use with my tube AND SS amps. I DIYed mine but you can .......

You can go to Home Depot or ACE's and pick up that fuse. You don't need a "audio grade fuse". Any regular fuse with those ratings will work. One word of caution. If you installed a power tube backward .......

I've owned, at one point or another, over 100 vintage stereos. The receivers of the earlier half of the 70's were the best sounding. The only difference depended on your own personal taste in a brands .......
