I really enjoyed the MiniDSP on the MMG setup. ability to play with slopes/crossover points quickly and easily, etc. Sounded fantastic to me - though admittedly I have 'lead ears' - certainly not gold .......

Nice solution - can't go wrong with NAD, and supporting the local little guys as an added bonus! NAD has detractors, but I have found them to be very flat and honest amps. Super robust and reliable as .......

The advantage of 1.7 over MMG is not so much the added bass, but the bigger "window into the sound" and better clarity and detail. The bass extends a bit deeper but not deep enough to negate the need .......

I have a 12amp model IIRC. They are all built the same, component size changes. You can get away with a lower-amp model if it's only being used on low-power gear. Hi-power amps will need a big one, o .......

With the right mods can the performance of the quasi-ribbon be brought up to the level of a true ribbon? (no but it can get close) Can the quasi ribbon be kept in the complement and crossed over lower .......

I drove a set of MMG's for a couple years with a very similar Yamaha, predating yours by a few years. They are nice receivers. Some say they sound 'hot' or 'bright', I would say they are 'flat', witho .......

I suspect they are plenty fast enough to sound good with Maggies. However, looks like they are designed to operate up to around 200hz. Maggies generally only need re-enforcement around 40-50hz and dow .......

Given you wish to purchase new in the mid-teens range, the only SoundLab in the price range would be the Millenium 3PX. At that price point, I don't know if it can compete with the 20.7... it is a 'sm .......

Agree with others - Keep the MMG's, do not worry about the 12's. I suspect 1.7 would be too big for your room, MMG are 'just right'. MMG have excellent upgrade potential, they sound great out of the b .......

Another vote for either IB (optimal) or nice sealed subs. If you go the DIY route, passive radtiator or Isobarik designs are worth looking at as well. Personally I am enamored of IB and Isobarik. IB h .......

Any decent 4-ohm stable amp will run the speakers without issue; give it a whirl! They are really a pretty easy load, low resistance and moderate sensitivity, but no weird impedance swings. ::: TOPIC: .......

Active XO and Biamp baby! MiniDSP is $135 for hardware and software, and is a blast to use. I bought one for the MMG's recently and enjoying it. Your exisiting amp will be fine for bass/mid, a $20 Lep .......

You can't go too far wrong with the cap upgrade - it's cheap and reversible. Do not expect to hear huge differences; at least I did not, with my addmittedly 'brass' ears. It is 'different' but whether .......

I tried both the Precision and regular Dayton capacitors this winter. Personally my MMG's were a bit mis-matched from the factory, one speaker was noticabley brighter than the other. The Precision mat .......

Agreed, Crowns or any other solid pro-sound name would be excellent. I am using QSC GX series and like them a lot. The QSC does have objectionable fan noise, can be solved by replacing with quiet fan .......

I suggest run the receiver as-is and do not worry about it. The limiting factor is heat. The Yammy (like most all receivers) is a standard passivly cooled class a/b amp, and will be limited by it's po .......

Suzanne - try inserting the resistors in the tweeter section. The older amp may well have been rolling off the treble a bit, while the new NAD response will be ruler-flat. Maggies in general are a bit .......

DC offset is easy to measure and can cause huge problems. Most a/v enthusiasts are unaware of it. Just disconnect the speakers, and measure DC volts @ speaker connection on the amp while turned on, no .......

Just a suggestion.... there is a lot of wiring and connections in between the output stage of the amp and the speaker: the internal connections of the amp (probably no more than 16g wire), the binding .......

Equal lengths, as short as reasonably possible, 12g (or better) copper wire. 12g wire adds about 0.01ohm/meter and negligible inductance and capacitance. Bare wire ends into the amp and into the speak .......

my experience is buying a used amp is buying someone else's problem. I am sure there are exceptions but I've not had good luck. Personally I am driving 1.7s through a GSC GX3 amp. More like 250clams, .......

It is a 'Full Razor', only difference to the write-up being I used a cheaper product called "Fat Mat" instead of the hi-dollar stuff. Looked like people had used various materials with similar success .......

I did a lot of reading on amps and found an awful lot of pixie dust. Of the few amp reviews with instrumented tests, the tests could not identify the nameplate... Of course, I would expect a $20k Brys .......

I suggest at least look at adding an IB (infinite baffle) sub. It takes the most work but makes the BEST bass! Personally I've owned several name-brand ported subs and built several sealed versions. M .......
