RGA- The Line Magnetic amps use mostly imported parts and iron. They wind their own transformers using wire and cores from Europe. Same goes for the caps, depending on the model, I've seen custom made .......

Remove the anti skate weight and try again. The arm will/should sound much better without it. At 2.5 grams you do not need anti skate. .......

Definitely not the norm with these cartridges. They track like champs with a spherical or super fineline tip. Remember- a retip is very often just a new cantilever glued into the stub of the old canti .......

Actually the picture isn't from the 'good old days', its a picture of Helga winding a new coil. A photo hanging at EMT is of the same Helga winding cartridges, on the same old jig in the mid 1970's. S .......

My preference is for the spherical and super fineline. Spherical for pre 1970 LP's and SFL for post 1970. Since a majority of my collection is pre 1970, I use the SPH most of the time. I have a EMT 93 .......

SFL is not the vdh. vdh is the vdh. They make three versions- spherical called SPH, super fineline called SFL or vdh made by vdh. SFL is made by EMT. They can be rebuilt through my company Tone Import .......

Sounds like the brake may be rubbing against the inside of the platter. Pushing the on/off switch is probably pulling the brake pad away from the inner rim. Readjust the brake and see if that helps. B .......

The pulley has two set screws tightly locked down. Remove these screws and flip the pulley around... then screw it back down. You should be all set. Good luck. JH .......

Yup. Six digit serial numbers on my reissue pair, and a four digit date code. If the date code isn't there... someone rubbed it off. My reissue pair has a 9915 date code. Best, JH .......

I could be wrong here... that sounds more like a serial number to me. All WE300B's I've seen have a four digit code with the first two digits being the year. The second two digits being the week. i.e. .......

Hi Peter, The 300B amps are Shindo Laboratory Lafon Limited's from Japan. Those are genuine NOS Western electric 300B's from 1980's production. They're quite a bit better sounding than the reissue W.E .......

Which SME arm? If it's a 3012 then the Grado doesn't belong on it. What kind of plinth are you using? MDF, Granite etc will make a celeste sound like a electric guitar. Certainly skip the lame squash .......

I always found them bright as well but I wouldn't pass judgement using a Classe amp and a Aragon pre...pure dreck! Tubes might are always worthwhile but you need a lot of juice to get DQ-10's going. J .......

That depends on the cabinet used but about 93db for the 12" and 95db for the 15. Used in a GRF or AutoGraph style enclosure this creeps up a few db. Tannoy's seem to be an easy load and I'm powering m .......

I have the series 1 3012 and the headshell bayonet is a friction fit. Just hold the arm wand firmly and give a gentle twist and pull and it should come out. Be careful not to put to much pressure on t .......

What you need to do is remove the cartridge and measure the impedance of each individual wire from the headshell to the din socket and make sure they all measure the same...should be very low like .01 .......

Adrian, My Garrard 301's shaft is 1 3/4" long measuring from the eddy current disc and the pulley is below the end of the shaft and lines up with the idler wheel perfectly. Take a look at the linkage .......

Be sure not to measure the continuity of the cartridge itself!! This could easily burn open the microscopic wires in the coil. A meter would be your best bet in checking the internal arm wire's. JH :: .......

Frank, I'll have to get back to you on the Garrard vs. Linn as I have yet to set up the Garrard. The SME10 took some tweaking for me to be happy with it. I found initially the noise floor was way lowe .......

Frank, I too have one of these. The story I have heard is that Mitch Cotter brought these into the country in the 1980's. It is in fact a EMT that was modified by VDH. I beleive it started life as a T .......

The Linn Basic was about 650- I think so 300- was not out of place. The Rega 3 is better sounding as stated above. Grado's are also prone to hum on Linn tables. I would skip it and get a LP12 which ol .......

3012 in a heartbeat. You can easily rewire the 3012, it took me 30 minutes including soldering rca's on. There is also a bearing tweak to be had in Germany. The 3012 is built to a much higher standard .......

The FREDs make sense but leave the extra capacitance unused. In my experience unless you have a noise problem the less capacitance the better. I have also found that adding capacitance actually slows .......
