Michael, I am a big fan of the FT-2 paralleled with an equal valued silver mica (with results similar to yours). The FT-2 adds body to sound of the micas (in my amp anyway). Is there a pictorial demon .......

I built this amp several years ago and it is still in use. It now uses the KT120 Tung-Sol instead of the KT88. The input tube is the D3a pentode...great tube! The is a nice synergy between these tubes .......

That is way cool! Only 1 cap!! How do you calculate resistance the transformer will see in a cathode follower connection? A simple rule-of-thumb or a spec sheet value, higher math? Thanks for the conc .......

I have heard regulated heaters before...and they work pretty well. But in the spirit of "use what you got" and the urge to be bold, I'm going to give the chokes a go on the bread board. We'll see how .......

For tubes with large pins I have used a $1.00 bill. It is just abrasive enough to clean'em up (most of the time). Using a dollar bill is an old trick for cleaning relay contacts. .......

I dropped it. The "I" lams were offset about 1 lam. I loosened the L brackets and with the butt of a screwdriver tapped the lams bach into alignment and tightened everything down. It buzzes like craz .......

As a former solid surface fabricator I think there are some precautions you should take: Care should be taken to sink heat away from the material and not into it. It can take a fair amount of heat but .......

One thing I have noticed with the JJs is that after about 3 hrs of listening the system seems to lose some of it's slam and sparkel. Bass seems to get a bit wooly and the lower mids are a little lazy. .......

This is a common tweek [search tweeker's asylum: "193L"]. The choke is wired across the incoming AC... hot and neutral. The 193L is about 57R and doesn't blow the fuse. The end bell/stack is grounded. .......

I have tried motor run caps as coupling caps and preamp output caps with some success. I have used .6uf and .3uf 660vac Aerovox caps. I had to try a bunch of different brands to get ones that sounded .......

Use some masking tape to cover the chassis. It allows you to draw your holes so you can see them and protects the chassis from being scratched by the saw. Clyde .......

I built that filter with the Rat Shack trannys...I used a 12uf motor run cap across the secondaries. I think I bypassed the MR cap with a 1uf Auricap and a .o1uf Russian teflon. My CD player and tuner .......

I mount them by cutting a circle out of wood that fits tight inside the cover like a piston. Drill 2-3 holes around the bottom edge of the cover. Fasten the wood to your chassis, screw your transforme .......

If the value will work it in your cross over, give it a try...They tend to have a very pleasing smooth sound. I use them paralled with an Auricap or a Russian teflon. It would make a nice power supply .......

Lead will shield you from X-rays but is not so good for RF...Steel is better. Try plumbing supply houses or metal recycler for lead. Ask for the steel there too. .......

Transformers and chokes all radiate a lot of noise. This is why fancy power cords are popular...they protect you from your own transformer noise. Sounds like your amp cover was acting as a collector .......

Fly-cutters work well...TAKE CARE!!! Too much preasure can cause the chuck to loosen and wobble as stress is placed just on the side of the spindle where the cutter is. This won't hurt you but might g .......

I am working on a tansformer output linestage using Electra-Print iron. Mine was conceived as a two chassis project just so I could be sure to keep the choke-transformer feilds out of the OP trannys. .......

Hi again, I have just aquired a large (about 20lbs) Westinghouse power transformer. It's a " C-core" looking thing with 20 taps. The sticker on top explains all the taps except after some of the HV on .......
