Probably not. The 'X7 can't handle the same amount of plate current as the 'T7. The gain is quite a bit different, too. .......

I've used clear fingernail polish to try to repair small signal and even power tubes. I haven't yet had the misfortune to need to try it on a rectifier. It seems to help, and hasn't caused any further .......

If you are still in the "considering" phase and it doesn't sound right, don't buy it! It might have crummy output transformers or some fundamental design flaw responsible for the poor sound. Walk away .......

Judging from the datasheet, you must specify gapping (100mA, 50mA, or PP for no gap?) at the time you order. .......

I'm a pessimist. I'd suspect they suffer from mis-aligned screens or beam formers, resulting in glowing grids or hot spots on the plate. You'd probably be fine running them well below spec, but where' .......

Buy a used Adcom preamp off eBay. Look for a GTP-400 or GTP-500, and don't pay more than $100. Maybe get lucky and find a GFP-555 II (but stay away from the first version!). Build your own tubed power .......

JJ makes tubes with "blue" and "red" glass. I once had a set of the blue tubes on loan. The blue wasn't bright and colorful - rather it was sorta dull and lumpy. I could imagine the red version might .......

What he said... and some amps are designed to accept either a 6L6GC or an EL34. In the latter case, they probably have the EL34's suppressor grid (pin 1) tied to cathode since the EL34 doesn't have it .......

All my 12AV7 have small wing shaped plates, just like a 12AT7. They look like midgets next to the mystery tube. I've never seen a jumbo sized 12AV7. .......

You could take the easy way out, and build a JE Labs Simple 2A3. It doesn't get much simpler than that. Experienced builders might cast a slant eye at the driver tube, but it seems to work fine for me .......

I'll let others with more experience confirm, but I'd suspect they don't work as well triode strapped. The G2 voltage limit is rather low (compared to what the plate will handle). I think these tubes .......

The KT-77 should be a beam tube. They're built like the attached photo. The EL34 should be a "true" pentode. It shouldn't have beam forming plates. Instead, there is a third grid winding (suppressor g .......

Only the tube gods know for certain. I've seen some old tubes from the 50's and 60's, and some of them are crappy. I've seen some modern manufacture tubes from manufacturers like New Sensor and Shugua .......

No, the inside is best cleaned with a wash of hydrofluoric acid. It can dissolve the glass taking the contaminants away with it. Make sure you get the plates clean while you are at it. .......

What you describe sound a lot like the Magnequest "Robin Hood" series output transformers. They make a RH-40 and a RH-60, rated at 40mA and 60mA respectively. They are open framed single ended units, .......

The nice thing about the 12AT7 is that even old stock tubes tend to be reasonably priced. I like the Sylvania quite a bit, and the Philips manufactured tubes are really good too. I don't have any RCA .......

I haven't tried EL34, but I did use a set of cheap Shuguang 6L6 for testing after I rebuilt the amps. They didn't seem to mind at all, and actually sounded half decent. I'm running a set of New Sensor .......

Reflektor built tubes which are compatible with the EL84 would have to be the 6p14p. The ones from the 70's are very nice. You might have to buy a bunch and match your own quad, though. .......
