This is BS. The mastering engineer (being one myself) has the least say in how things end up sounding at the end of the day. We try to make things sound as good as possible ("good" being relative, and .......

It's not the format (carrier), it's the production. Both have the capability of sounding stunning - in the right hands. And both, as we all know, can sound horrid. There is no harshness inherent in CD .......

Thanks Tom, the Wheaton is a great arm, as are any in that price range. I'm not a fan of upgraditis, and prefer to get something great (within budget) to begin with and stick with it instead of swappi .......

Mine are between 2-3 feet from the front wall (which is thin 'fibreboard'), the front wall is slanted so that the distance is greater at the bottom than at the top. Bottom is probably closer to 4 feet .......

I think you should go for it! The distance between the front (i.e behind the speakers, in front of you) wall and the speakers will vary depending on the factors mentioned here already. One other thing .......

I recently auditioned a REL B-1 and JL Audio fathom f112. The fathom stays. Crossover is at 35Hz, 24dB/octave (2nd order). 38Hz works ok here too, your setting will depend on room and placement. Ideal .......

Hi Plinius, my experience mirrors yours in that electrostats (in general, there are exceptions - although far beyond your budget) simply don't offer the macrodynamics, weight and heft needed for rock .......

For HT only, this works fine, and you can use the CC3 or MMGC under/above the TV. If you want to reproduce a live concert DVD/blu-ray or listen to surround music, you need 5 full range speakers - incl .......
