tbh i think it's overpriced. Any good controller (possibly pci-e) + external linear psu would set u for under 100 bucks and likely have cleaner power to feed the DAC. .......

I use this psu in place of an internal m-atx standard (switching) unit and it sounds slightly better. The obvious reason for using a dc-dc psu is to not have heat inside the case and to not have fans. .......

All depends what your dac accepts. If it's the plain old spdif (whether in AES fashion), RME and Lynx are the best (not sure of the differences between pci and pci-express versions, heard mixed things .......

Telstar, what do you need a pretty powerful cpu for? With the cmp2 recipe you can get completely fanless and 192k upsampling. Unless you are doing some kind of realtime room correction fanless is pre .......

I bet I can hear them. My Vaio fans run at 1200 rev/min and have well designed, muffled cooling, and still they are there if I pay attention. If you demand the best, fans are out. There are no quiet .......

The BEST solution is to do a system restore of a time when everything worked. It is one of the best features of Vista that too few ppl use. It saved my a*s lots of times. I always make a restore point .......

The test you describe proves nothing; the differences could be due to timing (which could be affected by quite a few things in these two PCs...memory, buffering, driver versions, other processes, CPU .......

Maybe I wasn't clear, but it has to be a wideband, no tweeter and no crossover will be used. Just bass boost with one or two woofers, active and cut very low. .......

Installed and checked sound (i dont upsample). Not better than foobar (0.96 with wasapi out), but nicer interface and more features, such as gapless playback, fade (which i like) and stable so far. :: .......

Although the PCM1704 is not obsolete (in the sense of no longer offered for sale), it is effectively so and difficult to source in any quantity. It is back in production, for one year now, ROHS-comp .......

Hello Christine, There are to points in which I disagree. First and foremost, I hate the sound of delta-sigma DACs. My favourite chip, the pcm1704, is a multibit DAC, therefore it requires 24 (22 or 2 .......

In general, if you use perfect sinc filtering, the coefficients go to zero at 1/x. So to get 22 bit coefficients you need to go out 4 million samples. This would require you to buffer about 90 second .......

There are no new driver models in Win 7. All the existing Vista drivers should work fine. Report a bug if that is not the case. Drivers that dont work in my case: -Intel x48 chipset drivers -LSI meg .......

I havent done direct comparison, but the F3 is the best sounding of ALL Nerlson designs, IMO. You can look into improvements only in the source and pre-amplification. .......

I highly doubt it has anything to do with ASIO, which is merely a protocol for moving digital audio data (without timing information). ASIO got the reputation as somehow "sounding" better than other .......

I second the Audioquest Sky suggestion (they are more neutral) and recomend also Siltech. The most expensive of their range that you can affort (the G6 are probably out of range, unless used). ::: TOP .......

That is weird because Gordon Rankin of Wavelength said the Lynx was killer in his battery powered PC. Maybe the AES16 isn't as good as the L22? I don't think that is the case, and wouldn't be surpris .......

An external soundcard is not susceptible to noise from computer like any pci one. Firewire is the best interface, because USB has intinsic jitter. .......

Being able to use exclusive mode in Vista is a matter of soundcard drivers. My old dmx6 fire on the test system where I'm evaluating XXHE does not allow for exclusive mode. Moreover, I couldnt at all .......

Yes, I tried foobar 0.9.4.4 (with ASIO) on the same Vista machine that I am running XXHighEnd and I prefer XXHighEnd. I tried 0.9.5beta3 with ASIO and prefer XX too, by a slight margin. Margin that .......

It is very possible (most audiophiles will gasp here) that the resampling in Vista *is* transparent due to high sample rates, where Kmixer was a good idea but was not transparent due to the sample ra .......

I didn't know that you needed ASIO. Then the SQ under XP and Vista is the same. The only reason for YOU to switch to Vista would be if you have a quad core that is not well supported under XP (google .......

If you use that computer only for audio playback, I would use Vista x32 and XXhighend player. If you have sompe specific programs, then you may need to upgrade some making the switch more costly. Pers .......
