I use an Ametek 850 VA isolation, filter transformer. These are typically used in network data centers. No hum or noise period from my 103 dBSPL speakers. Cheap on Ebay. .......

I agree. Good "iron" is key to a great sounding 300B amp. Prefer DC filaments via Tent Labs power supply with a dedicated transformer. .......

Also: I opened up the chassis to check the 6.3 Volt filament wiring and the wires are twisted and routed directly to the tube socket away from the shielded input cable. There are also no other PS wire .......

Performed tests. Noise not from source. I lifted Amp AC ground, no diff. It appears the noise occurs when there is series resistance at the grid input. The 6SN7 is AC heated. Perhaps this is filament .......

I have a pair of 300B monoblocks in good working order. Classic 6SN7-300B. When the volume pot is fully up, noise is a faint hiss at tweeter. When the control is set to around 75% I hear a slight buzz .......

Start with a low ESR/ESL capacitor first. In some cases I have found bypasses to alter the sonics in a negative way. .......

I have owned them with 802/511 horns, 416-8B woofers, stock cabs and networks. Best amp was a 10 Watt 300B. Solid state was always screechy, lol. .......

I prefer low mass, minimum metal posts. Cardas is beefy but has a sonic signature. IME; Furutech, WBT, ETI plastic posts sound better with minimum metal yet good contact area. .......

Own the the Psvane TII CV-181. One tube is noisy after only 150 hours, Can tap on the glass and it goes away. Sonically I find that the Tung-Sol 6SN7 reissue is smoother and quieter than Psvane. ::: T .......

Technically the fuses are illegal if they are not certified by UL, CSA, CE etc. Some audio equipment mfrs will void warranties and if the fuse burns your house down forget about insurance coverage. :: .......

Now try a direct connect hard-wire for grins and compare. IME, NO fuse sounds best (just temporary) for testing. I had good results with 5 x 20 ceramic fuses by Schurter. .......

Yes, F*. The aluminum cover is acting as a basic heat sink. It is a slow temperature rise over many hours due to heating of the air volume that tops out at 123*F. Hammond says to remove the end bells .......

Report: After 4 hours, 109*. With cover 123* 2 hours. Measured with Fluke meter and thermocouple attached to lam core. Tranny at these temps has a slight varnish odor (only 40 hours of use). ::: TOPIC .......

So many choices. I am happy with the Cabledyne Premier PC. I use it on my home baked 300B SE amp. The combo of the gold/copper connectors and silver wire seems to do the trick. Just my .02... ::: TOPI .......

The base metal is more important. Copper sounds better than brass, IMO. Gold plated copper is warmer than Rhodium plated copper. Silver plated copper can also sound good. The outlet should also match .......

I agree with you Norm: Media Center 17 can be set to upsample all frequencies to 384k. I use a non-upsampling DAC and set MC17 to 192k or 96k. It smooths the highs without losing "air" typical of hard .......

Yes, the Bifrost can be grainy in the highs on some recordings. Some might blame the AKM chipset or power supplies. The Wadia 121 revealed much more detail in my system with no HF edge BUT it sounded .......

very true about 16 bit recordings. The sampling rate is just not high enough. On 24/96 recordings the Bifrost is very neutral in my system. To get the highs right I needed 200 hours break-in and a goo .......

The latest cable trends appear to be in alloyed wire (not plated). Siltech has been the pioneer in this area. A true alloyed wire typically yields better sonic performance but at a high cost. My lates .......

IME, most audiophile cords use UL/CSA plugs and wire but the finished cord has not been tested/certified by UL. I really would not worry about it. Get a high quality cord with top plugs and Teflon mat .......

I do not have the UL standards documents handy but I believe the ground wire must be 14 AWG for a 15 Amp "appliance cord". As you may know both neutral and ground are tied to the same buss at the serv .......

Audience uses fairly thin wire and this explains what you are experiencing (poor damping factor due to high loop resistance). In your system with 4m, you may want to consider at least 10 gauge conduct .......

Yep. Circuitry makes the diff. Lots of pseudo-balanced stuff out there. I have heard many single-ended vs. true balanced systems and many times the single-ended sounds better especially on shorter cab .......

The Valhalla has some zip in the highs. I attribute that aspect to the plated copper wire. A well designed silver cable is more natural in the highs at least in my system. This is where the Paragon ex .......
