I'm currenty enjoying the Russian K40Y-9 PIO coupling caps in my 300B monoblocs. 0.22uF 400V ones. They sound as good as how many have described in AA and will test them for the next week. However .......

Tube type #s often are represented by the voltage of the heater. In my example the 6SN7 is a 6.3V heater. Just like the 5U4GB is a 5 volt heater. Can the same be said for the 7N7? This link says it' .......

The best part about this amp is the ability to tube roll and swap components to taylor the type of sound you like. I've got TJ 300B mesh plates and found they don't have the drive & authority compared .......

Hi Pat, All my chassis are made out of 3mm thick aluminum sheets. The power transformer is toroidal so I don't think the 90° rotation applies. I've had the 300 breadboarded on MDF before the start of .......

I assume your power transformer has filament/heater secondaries all in 1 power transformer? My monoblocs have separate transformer for the tube rect and 300B and located at opposite ends of the chassi .......

I've tried the standard AC -> Bridge diode -> 4700uF or higher capacitance which is most commonly found in tube schematics using DC supplies. I've not used an inductor as the chokes take up enough spa .......

I've never looked into 1625 tubes. However considering some of the difficulties i've had on my 807 project, it would be MUCH easier to of gone with 1625 sets than 807 and incorporate a separate heater .......

I really appreciate all the input. I've tested my amp with a 10Kohm pot for the feedback resistor. When I had it up to 9k, i've noticed the bass wasn't that good (maybe oscillating?) - sorta like a do .......

OMG!! I temporarily clipped a 3.3Kohm 1W carbon film resistor (to match my 8 ohm speaker) for NFB and it stopped ALL the hiss! I mean the hiss VANISHED! Yes I beefed up the uF in the amp. Choke input .......

I've used similar types of 'power' resistors in class A solid state amps with good results however, would never of thought they would be suitable for valve amps. I'll keep my options open but the tick .......

Alan, So to say that the actual plate voltage on my 2A3 is around 270 volts. Therefore it should be safe to use older NOS 2A3 tubes like RCA JAN, Mullards, etc ?? .......

For clarifications, the cabinent was built by a local joinery and I must say I was very impressed with the work. The type of joints were a special mitered/angled edge so the veneered edges would meet .......

I've heard the same before about this "tuned pipe" idea. However, there is nothing trivial about this box. It's a simple bass reflex (vented) box design and frankly.. any slight changes to the box dim .......

Yes I put the xover together myself - the kit manual has instructions that use an external box you make to install the xovers in. I thought this was impracticle and have them mounted on the front baff .......

Put it this way, of all the speaker projects i've done in the past, I havn't encounted where using the slightest variation could render the speakers that bad in sound. Tonight I will contest my belief .......

Today i've filled the speakers in with peanuts and it hasn't changed the sound that much. The amp i'm using is a Nelson Pass Son of Zen amp i've built about a year ago and i know for sure the amp has .......

You mean Nelson Pass's "Balance Line Stage" ? The input impedance can be set to what ever value without the pots. 221 ohms is what's shown in the schematic for R12 and R13. Using the pot on the input .......

I've made my own pair of CAT5e cables and did it completely by hand. I've thought of using the drill method but twisting the cables around as the drill spins in 1 direction is NOT the same as braiding .......
