I have not tried the unit in question but I would prefer one that has it's own power supply via wall wart or similar. That way you can use a USB chord with the power leg disabled so you can eliminate .......

The gold part is metal. The black part is plastic. When the cart is mounted, only the plastic touches the tonearm. It is meant to "isolate" the cart from sending vibrations to the arm. .......

I have an OC9ML II and I don't find it bright. It is actually quite polite. I found it to be too soft. I prefer my Glider which has a little more "traction" or "bite" to the sound which makes it sound .......

I've always found upsampling does for sound what stretching does for video when playing regular-res TV on a large screen TV. Sure it fills the screen but it doesn't look like hires and it doesn't even .......

The specs on the lower models are somewhat different than the Virtuoso, but they are similar. The whole line is made the same way and then they are separated by how well they perform. (Much like Grado .......

I found the price of the 2M Black stylus was pretty much on par with the Clearaudio Virtuoso replacement price. The Virtuoso replacement price is $525 and the stylus replacement for the Black is $500 .......

As you have discovered, there is no reason to float the arm if you are not using the arm's own VTF dial. You will be fine. As an aside, I removed the VTF spring from my RB300 years ago and I have not .......

Sounds like you have trouble finding something "just right" for your own personal taste. Grado too warm, Virtuoso too cold... I have not tried any of the top Grados, but many here swear by them. I do .......

Actually the Clearaudio (and possibly Grado carts) have better specs than the 2M because of the fixed stylus. (Channel separation, balance and frequency linearity is better.) As you say, the trade in/ .......

I would say unfortunately you would be dreaming to match the Virtuoso at $250. One of the best things about the Virtuoso is that it is a "cream of the crop" cart. That is to say, Clearaudio builds car .......

I actually played them both again tonight. For sure the Holland outdoes the US copy. It has a lot more detail but is not bright at all. It just sounds more like an original tape than a dub. My US copy .......

Every individual cart is different, even among the same model. Also, every tonearm and table are different. That is why they give you a range of VTF to deal with rather than an exact number. Hats off .......

Sounds like you have a nice table and arm. The VTF range for that cart is listed as 0.75-1.75 g. That would put the optimal at 1.25 g. Have you tried it more at the middle of the range rather than max .......

I have used Elmer's Rubber Cement to great effect. It is the stuff, like you mention, used in magazines. It does a great job dampening resonance and vibration and peels right off if you want to remove .......

I agree with Henry. Time for a real phono stage. I would get something used with tubes (Audio Research, Sonic Frontiers, EAR). Carts don't just "deliver" the huge soundstage, the phono stage does most .......

Loosen the screws and rotate the cart until the cantilever is straight with the lines and at the right overhang. Aligning the cart body means nothing; the diamond in the groove needs to be aligned. :: .......

If you remove the stylus from the cart, does it appear crooked or does it only look crooked when playing in the groove? Even if you were playing it with "a screw loose" :) I doubt that would be enough .......

One of my quietest carts in the groove is my Denon DL-103 which is surprising because it is a conical stylus. Even with headphones, surface noise is not an issue. My elliptical and FG stylus carts are .......

I think ECM or Manfred Eicher kind of lost it when they went digital in the early 80s. (I think Don Cherry/Ed Blackwell El Corazon was the first digital recording.) From that point on they figured tha .......

I think its a dumb review of the Bronze. I really doubt that Ortofon would produce a cart that sounded "hard", but there you have it. It's the only review on the net and everybody reads it and quotes .......

Honestly, the graph included with the Denon 103 series cartridges shows anything but flat response. This loaded at 47K. Guess that is what the checker is set to. I don't know. Mine looks very flat, .......

I bought an M97xE a while back and boy, I like it a lot. It really has a lot going for it. It's weak point would be its tracking ability when things really get rough but on most things it tracks fine .......

This certainly appears to be how the Rega arms work, but I wonder how the magnet pulls the arm away from the center of the record (ie, to the right) when in fact the magnet's force is pulling the ring .......

Our dog just had knee surgery due to a torn ligament. They went in, cut the bone and rotated it and put in a metal plate to hold it in a new position. It has been 4 weeks and she is now walking better .......

Generally, Canadian lps were cut from secondary production masters and not from the actual master tapes. There were various mastering facilities in Toronto and Montreal that cut a lot of the 70s - 80s .......

I don't know. I'm listening to Coltrane's Meditations right now and although it does sound nice with a drummer in each channel, McCoy Tyner's piano is completely cut off at the knees and doesn't exhib .......

I have a lot of RVG CTI lps and I have heard just a few Blue Notes of his. I would say his work exhibits a lot of artifice. Sometimes its good, other times not so good. It is rare that he just kicks b .......

I agree, the VPI 16.5 does wonders for background noise. I listen pretty loud in a near-field setup and backround noise is very low if the vinyl is in half decent shape. .......

I recall reading in an interview with Ray Davies, one of the guys from the Kinks. He mentioned that it can be disconcerting for some people to hear digital music because the sound is not "mounted" on .......

Wow, I came across a copy of Devotion a couple years ago and gave it a listen. Like you, I got rid of it because of Buddy Miles' drumming. Didn't think he fit in at all. I thought maybe it was just me .......

What did you think of the Glider while you had it? Was it coming close to what you wanted? The L2 uses the same "engine" and the big difference is the wood body so I would assume the sound would be fa .......

If they are really scratched, I would say pass. I don't think they would be overly valuable even in mint shape. Scratched would be a deal breaker for me. .......

I think I have an actual negative reaction to digital processing of sound. A one-layer digital recording is not bad at all. When you start layering on Pro-Tools plug-ins on top of plug-ins, it creates .......

Technics had a whole line of linear tracking tables in the late 70s and 80s that were very affordable. They didn't sound all that great, however. I owned an SLQ L1 and even a modelst table with an RB3 .......

In a recent informal survey here, it was determined that VPI was by far the most owned table brand. I don't think this is due to advertising, rather it has grown out of other people being satisfied an .......

One of the reasons I love records from the 60s and 70s is that they don't use digital reverb. Once the 80s hit and Dire Straits and Sting started using the cavernous digital sound, that was the end of .......
