I agree completely, base and table mass must be considered as a whole, and in an ultimate design the best foot positions would be at or near (depending on base mass distribution) your recommendations .......

You could buy a model 200 circle cutter from jasper audio. It's typically used to cut holes in speaker cabinet baffles but makes perfectly round platters too; only $40 USD. Check their website to see .......

I don't think sonically a new P2 with same arm would be better than an older Planar 3, but it might be close. If the Planar 3 platter bearing is still in good shape I think it would be more cost effec .......

The VPI cleaner's a good idea. But if the record is already highly charged I'm not sure the VPI would discharge it; perhaps. But if it is really debris the VPI should remove it, then you'll know for s .......

When I ran out of the stock Discwasher fluid I used the only fluid I had left; some last power cleaner. Now mind you I cleaned my records off the turntable on a cloth (with both the DW and last fluids .......

You're right, a Zerostat (which I also have) is trivial to use. But you do have to get the trigger press and release speeds right for best results. The Kilivolt just has a button, essentially it's an .......

I've used it for over 20 years on each record side with no problems. Sometimes, in my dry Canadian location, removing a record from it's sleeve can actually charge it up enough to pull on my arm hairs .......

Rega bearings, like the Planar 2, Planar 3, P2, P3 are a good choice for DIY'ers IMO. Just the bearings alone are often on Ebay cheap and are EXCELLENT quality (ie: tight with low friction) for the co .......

It's what I've used in lots of arm bearings including my Rega RB300 about the same vintage as your RB250. Such vintaged arms MAY have more than just "dust" on/in the bearing races however. They could .......

The tracking force dial is the round knurled knob on the right side of the vertical bearings. It rotates and doesn't go "up and down" (or it most definitely shouldn't). Did you mean the sliding antisk .......

I've also got an OC9 and have been using the (dry) Stylast brush before each side for about 7 months now with no problems. Since the wet applicator brush is less stiff I can't see either damaging the .......

I blew the left channel transformer in my ATH-7 adapter box and in an attempt to repair I replaced both transformers with the ones from a Stax SRD-4 adapter I purchased off Ebay (I also got a SRD-6/SB .......

Getting the mass right is of course what you want but that VPI is a unipivot and it isn't ideal to have the mass so high raising the center of gravity. You can do even better than underneath the heads .......

Not sure I agree it's been done before...I haven't read or heard, but does Mark's design allow the motor to be driven with a cd or mp3? Charles design does allow this, given suitable sinewaves recorde .......

Yes, I agree it occurs. Perhaps in my case not after 1 play, but even after 5 to 10 plays I believe I'm hearing a degradation. But certainly during a longer time span I've noticed increased wear on so .......

Actually I'm building a similar one (well, similar looking anyway) so I doubt I'll buy one. Prototype 1 sounds promising with the Denon DL-103. At least it sounds better with the 103 than my Rega RB30 .......

I have the same problem with my VPI HW-19jr and have about 1 to 2mm of play at the platters edge. But since it's not an inverted bearing like yours, I get what Bill Firebaugh of Well Tempered fame dis .......

I'm having a similar problem on my VPI HW-19 jr/Rega RB300/Denon DL103 combo that I think is static buildup and discharge. It's not record defects, dirt, or grunge in the grooves but an extraneous pop .......

If by "certain aspects of setup" you mean alignment then I'd say no; I doubt that could be the problem even if you hadn't used a protractor. But vertical tracking force can SLIGHTLY change the equatio .......

If it isn't a cartridge/tonearm mismatch, and it isn't feedback or record defects, then perhaps it's been sitting too long and created a flat spot on the belt? I'd recommend checking for a belt flat s .......

On my VPI HW-19jr, I removed the dustcover, the hinge holders and screws, the cork resting pads, the motor cover, and the motor cover supports and screws. Only after all this did I listen so I couldn' .......

the "R" is not a line contact, it's a .2mm special round (conical) like the standard 103 (sometimes called the 103C). The "D" on the other hand is a .1mm special eliptical so if anything it is closer .......

Matt, No, No, No, don't modify/lengthen the Rega headshell slots and potentially decrease the value of the Rega. Move the arm's center of rotation (pivot) one mm or so closer to the platter's spindle .......

Just received my first DL-103 and certainly understand its appeal. BIG upgrade from my lowly Linn Basik :)...but more on its sound later. My two cents worth on its alignment/compatiablity in the Rega .......
