I don't remember such a membrane.....Grados are very good at their price point. If you have an issue, send it back to Grado for a look-see. I knew Joe Grado personally....had many of his cartridges.. .......

tried this.....at first there was a high end rolloff. I removed them all......put them back......the highs returned......left them in because I just was unsure. If there is a difference, I couldn't .......

if your components are differentially balanced, XLR will give the best sound....if not, you're wasting your time .......

..so, if as you say I used too much salt, would you remove all the packets and replace them with 1/2 amount specified, or continue using the half and leaving the installed packets .......

Is it possible (as in most tweaks that I've had) to overdo this....or as it would seem to be...just do the whole house.?? I've done about 1/2 the house and I seem to be hearing a closing in rather tha .......

Thanks for your post.....My system is all Ayre electronics (preamp, amp, silver disc player) with Vandersteen 5A speakers. and turntable with Windfield cart. All components are differentially balanced .......

I have 2 Schumann gizmos and do hear a benefit.....not everyone agrees .....but it's for me...more 3 dimensional realism...more air around the instruments.....subtle but noticeable. .......

... just my take but bi-amping really requires the same manufacturer/quality/power rating of both amps to be the same. Amps have a "voicing" which can defeat Vandersteen's purpose/design goals ::: TO .......

When Harry gave up the reins, VPI went downhill.....I use a superscotmaster/classic platter/rim drive, sds. am pleased with it.....not interested in VPI any more .......

I did them myself....top of the line Furotech connections with Acrolink wire....easy to do....take your time and be neat. Very rewarding. .......

As you know Jeff...Vandersteens are very particular about setup.....amps, cables, how you set the complex crossover/filters, etc. Unless you're willing to give it your very strict attention, I wouldn' .......

There really is no such thing as the "right" setting for a/s. ...it varies with stylus shape, where the cartridge is on the record, how loud the section is, etc.. Use your ears to determine if you w .......

I agree that silver imparts a "silvery glow" to the sound...not my liking. I'm using all Furotech top of the line plugs....Love the sound....better than any conditioner plugged into the wall. ::: TOP .......

I have a V1 ....sent it back to Ayre for a look-see/listen and gave them permission to change anything they want. They sent it back with a report of nothing broken. These things are built to last a .......

I am really happy you found an answer. I am/was a pro violinist and find my happiness with Beethoven, Bruckner, Mozart, etc. As you say in your post, classical music doesn't work well with hearing ai .......

I have NHT speakers for my %.1 system for about 20 years......sound good to me. .......

When I stop for a light, the engine actually turns off.....the best the Burmeister sounds in my Porsche.....when the engine restarts, the sound is background at best no matter how loudly I play it. :: .......

The tops are Furutech and Oyeida. I tried both and are using Furutech top carbon fiber connections. I believe a sober audiophile could like the other.....a matter of taste .......

Mine are top end Cardas .....Works well. They connect to the Sennheiser phones with detachable cables. The original wires swapped for the Cardas is a definite step down. .......

Be sure when using balanced headphones that they match what your amp can output. Sometimes you need a separate XLR for left, and another for the right....sometimes they're combined. .......

its not a problem. If you have a tape deck with 3 heads (erase, recording, playback) then you can tell if the tape broke, is over recorded, etc. by using the monitor because you are hearing what's com .......

In other words with the switch in you're listening to the output of the tape deck (if you have one), otherwise you're listen to your selected input. This ables you to prevent overloading and distortin .......

I got new (8 years ago) cable for my 650's ....top (at the time) Cardas balanced. Easy switch to hear a big difference from the stock cables .......

The way I install a cartridge is to push the pins on to the cartridge with my fingers....then install the cartridge in the arm. Since I've been doing this, I never broke one. Remove the cartridge from .......

That is a common problem. What I do is push the clips onto the cartridge pins with my fingers, before installing the cartridge into the arm. This is a much easier and safer way .......

The way I do it after ripping out too many leads in the old days, is to attach the leads with the fingers, before attaching the cartridge to the head shell. If you use pliers, etc....you make it more .......

Sen 650/600....are truly great. They lack upper harmonics and low end extension, but the mids are wonderful. They should be connected to a dedicated headphone amp.....no need to look elsewhere. ::: T .......

When evaluating speakers don't forget how it does dynamics. A speaker can have wonderful imaging, a flat response from 5 to 50000 hz, but if it just sits there, it doesn't appeal to me. .......

Im using the XLR box because my Ayre equipment is all differentially balanced. The Nordost is a bit brighter, ....not a big difference for me. .......

You didn't mention the manufacturer of the tonearm....I would send it back to them. A broken tonearm has different sonic/alignment issues than the original. .......

There is quite a difference if and only if the components connected are differentially ballanced. The XLR cable is the clear winner in that case. .......

It really doesn't matter. What you're doing is changing the angle the stylus sits in the groove (VTA). One way the highs will be elevated, the other, it will sit deeper in the groove (better tracking) .......

What you're hearing are the changes in VTA. As you add weight, you're pushing down on the stylus which flattens it relative to the record, and v/v. .......

I made up power cords using the top Oyeida connectors and using the same Acrolink cable..the top Furutech connectors (they look like carbon fiber)....they both are excellent, but the Furutech is clean .......

Yes - its aluminum ....mine was fitted to Superscoutmaster...changed the belt drive to rim drive....3D arm - 2nd pivot. I changed out the feet to BearPaws.... All these changed took a really great tu .......

Harry at VPI ranks the best as the Lyra Atlas, then Etna, and then the AT1000. He's heard everything (personally, I like the Etna even better)...haven't heard the 1000 - presume it has the personality .......

Raise the arm to the very top....raise it more, and it will remove from its base plate.... then remove those screws and its done. When reinstalling, don't be lazy and get all the adjustments spot on. .......

Putting larger "audiophile approved" power cables will do nothing to change the sound. I have a 5A and tried it....just use the ones that came with the speakers. .......

I don't have your model, but I replaced the metal arm with a 3D...very easy. The junction box is easy as well. I'd call VPI for specific directions. I guess you're going to paint the turntable and not .......

When you take off the stylus, you can also disconnect the brush which adds noise. Its a good cartridge ...remember with the brush connected, you must add 1 grm of weight to nullify the downward force .......

I don't think it does filter anything....the owners manual does not mention filtering. There are lights on the unit...I understand if a bad surge occurs, the current is directed to the lights and one .......

Dave - VTA or Vertical Tracking Angle is the angle the stylus sees as it sits in the groove of the record. I start with the cartridge as exactly to horizontal as I can adjust it, then I slightly raise .......

Story.... 2nd pivot is an attachment to the single pivot VPI arms that completely eliminates any wobling around that single pivot. The result is much greater clarity, dynamics, bass, ....no down side .......

I agree.... I have Vandersteen speakers with powered sub incorporated....stock cord is better .......

Look up the Merrill Veritas. This one is a giant killer. I haven't heard other other amps that is this good. Only a trace of class D....but only a trace. All others are flat, dead, and unmusical in co .......

what helped my speakers is to place some carpet on the floor in front of the speakers. This diffuses the 1st arrival time. .......

To get the best sound from earphones, use a dedicated headphone amp (I think they all have volume controls) I would certainly use it with the Sen 600. .......

You don't need an expensive sub to add greatly to your system. I have an "OUTLAW"...cheap. It has its own amp and crossover...you just have to set it up properly and in the right place. Mine is in a c .......

The problem is that even when perfectly set up, when you get it home, it will be out again. There is a Linn book that will teach you to be an expert. I think that it is only available to a Linn dealer .......

Class D's do sound lousy....maybe in a few years they'll have matured. The Acoustats are that good that one can easily detect the flaws. My Acoustats' power supply caught fire ....lucky I was home be .......

I use an Ortofon Winfield which does very well with mono's. The caveat is that the azimuth must be adjusted as carefully as can be done.....I use a Foz with its accompanying test record....slowly and .......

..for next time. Put the clips on the cartridge pins before mounting the cartridge. Use your fingers....very easy to do and no broken wire clips. .......

A while ago, an electrical storm took out a Vandersteen amp (sent it back to Vandersteen who repaired it - not expensive either....anyway, I got a whole house protector that's wired in at the main cir .......

If you're using differentially balanced config....there is not that much difference in the ultimate sound of balanced cables. You don't mention your speakers, but I suspect that's what you need to add .......

It is very difficult to recommend a string for any violin....there are so many variables in play. I know Warchal very well, but for MY instrument, it just doesn't work. I know a number of pro's that .......

That's a long run....balanced is the right way to go if indeed your preamp is fully balanced. If so - the effects of different cable is minimal in my experience. I have Ayre pre to Ayre amp with about .......

I imagine you're trying to adjust for azimuth....the bubble level won't do it. Get a Fozgometer and its accompanying test record....do it right. Proper azimuth is a huge asset to the sound. ::: TOPIC: .......
