It depends on wether or not you use fixed bias. Fixed bias pretty much needs each tube to be on it's own filament supply. Or if you wish to use cathode bias and be able to adjust each cathode resistor .......

I am biased here, but thats because I work for Tek The old Tek 7000 series mainframes and plugins are hard to beat. Built like tanks. Should be real cheap on ebay or at hamfests. Expensive to ship tho .......

Glad you like this 1 possible solution. It was passed on to me by another "Total Tube Nut". And BTW, as long as you keep all the iron upside down, it's exactly the same as tipping the completed amp up .......

I run the first section of the ECC99 at about 9mA. The section that runs the LL1660 runs around 15mA. I adjust it's current to give the best flatness of the IT. It's pretty critical as to what impedan .......

I tested PP 300B recently with 3.2k p-p and it is simply too low. Too much distortion. However, if you load the 4 ohm secondary with 8 ohms, all will be well. Kind of limits you with speaker choices. .......

I added the ecc99 into the amp in place of the 5687. Twiddled the current for flat response and took a few measurements. The overall distortion of the amp dropped quite a lot. It now makes 25 watts at .......

In my experience, this is normal. I've heard it in any amp I've tested. Doesn't matter if the transformer is potted or not. Even the output tubes will sing. So don't worry about it. :-) Ron ::: TOPIC: .......

I think you just need to try it and see how it measures. I've done the opposite as you mentioned in your post. The transformer I'm using is the Harmon Kardon Citation II which measures to be 3.1k from .......

It's simple. Add a precision 1 ohm resistor in the cathode circuit, or even a 10ohm, then measure the voltage across it and do the math for the current. Ron .......

The OPT is from a HK Citation II. These are 3.1K P-P, from the 8 ohm tap. But load the 4 ohm tap with 8 ohms, and it becomes 6.2K P-P. Being a high quality transformer running at half it's designed po .......
