From the picture, I think the entire plate is silver - like those chrome plate French Mazda 12AX7's. AFAIK, all 6CG7's have the silver shield in between the plates, which the 6FQ7's lack. .......

Unless you have a lot of tension on the cable tie holders, the peel and stick type should work fine inside your amps even with the heat. If you want extra security, get a roll of the higher holding we .......

I wonder how they manage to get 20watts out of the 300B. There is the 300B XLS that can handle the higher dissipation, but they can't be swapped back and forth, and the WE 91B is using the standard 30 .......

For the price of that Yamaha, I would go with a Luxman M-700u. I also prefer the looks of the Luxman over the Yamaha. But I agree, it's a beautiful amp. .......

Maybe. When I had the pre that used the 6CG7's, I never directly compared using 6SN7's with adapters, and vice versa. Tube rolling, I found the RCA cleartop 6CG7's to be quite pleasing to the ears. S .......

I am pretty sure the outlet is wired correctly - I am sure I checked (but will double check) with one of those diagnostic plugs that will give indication if the neutral/hot are swapped. .......

I have a Hickok 752, when testing 6SL7 and 12AX7's (not sure if there are other types that show similar), ALL the results are 'low' - close to the min/reject point, even with brand new manufacture tub .......

If you know which tubes are for L/R channels, I would swap them over one at a time. If the noise carries over to the other channel then you've found the offending tube. Only way to know if the tubes a .......

It's an internal fuse, the voltage rating is clear but the amperage is not legible. There are no markings on the back, just a note to replace with the same value fuse, and not to open the unit as ther .......

As mentioned, get yourself a variac and slowly bring up the voltage to reform the caps. I have done this with equipment from storage and never had any issues afterwards. .......

There is a variant of the 12AX7 with rectangular box plates, namely the CV4004. Of course there are always difference of opinions, but those were typically well reviewed as 'better' than the normal 12 .......

Does your receiver have a crossover to send lower freq to your sub(s), and the rest to your main speakers? I'm not well versed with receivers, but if not then there will be redundancies if your main s .......

The Mogami W3014 are 4 conductors - sufficient for a bi-wire set. When you said a bi-cable run - what is the advantage of doing that? .......

Unless comparing different versions of the same song (orig vs remaster etc.), I do full albums. I have to physically get up to swap out the CD, and so tend to not do that until all the songs are done .......

Sorry to hear/see that pic of that nice 5AR4. That crack looks pretty bad, and definitely not a scratch/score on the glass - with the heat/cool cycling I, too, would be hesitant to use it. ::: TOPIC:: .......

Hope it wasn't an older high value version GZ34 :). If the crack in the glass goes through to the inside which allows air to enter the tube then it's toast. If it's a scratch on the glass and the vacu .......

I've had good results with mid 40's Sylvania VT-229's on a different amp previously. You might also want to try a pair of Tung Sol 6SU7GTY. People also have good reviews on the 7N7 tube, but it's a lo .......

I have the one on the left in your picture - the tall/skinny version. But yes the buttons are tiny. Not having used the other, I don't know any better :). I have a bunch of AX7's and 5751's - too much .......

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I took the transport apart, not difficult and the lens on the laser assembly looked to be 'pristine'. It does not looked clouded, filmed, or have any crud on it .......

Can you elaborate on your findings on drivers that 'influence' the sound from the 300B? My amp current uses EL34's as drivers (not sure if they are wired in triode mode) and am currently also using JJ .......
