1: Computer Audio Asylum, RE: Identical sound? How boring!...Indeed!! (0.00)
Posted by Rob F on 2012-10-04, 12:56:42 (122.60.101.66)
Actually some reading comprehension improvement appears to be necessary. I don't read Tony's post to advocate that DAC's should sound identical, just that they should sound equally good if the source .......
2: Cable Asylum, RE: Subwoofer cable gauge (0.00)
Posted by Rob F on 2012-09-15, 02:24:25 (122.60.101.66)
Sorry for the slow response. Yes 21 gauge will be fine. The difference in signal is that it will be higher voltage than a preamp out, the currents will be dictated by the load, which as we have noted .......
3: Cable Asylum, Subwoofer cable gauge (0.00)
Posted by Rob F on 2012-09-08, 00:05:42 (122.60.101.66)
The input impedance of the sub will be high abut 100kohm, so the currents flowing will be reasonably low, so there is little to worry about going with a light gauge cable here. That said it depends a .......
4: Tweakers' Asylum, RE: Can you still contol the volume? (0.00)
Posted by Rob F on 2010-01-30, 19:36:28 (122.57.49.81)
If the attenuation is not variable and the attenuation has been set via the modification to "half gain" then your circuit has a fixed voltage divider with approximately equal value series and shnt res .......
5: Tweakers' Asylum, RE: Poll: agree or disagree - "You can't replace a volume pot with a single resistor." (0.00)
Posted by Rob F on 2010-01-30, 13:52:19 (122.57.124.213)
It is not a matter of a poll, there is a correct answer. A pot is simply a variable voltage divider. It can be represented by a series resistor and a shunt resistor to ground, the value of each varyin .......
6: Cable Asylum, RE: Has anyone tried this cable recipe? (0.00)
Posted by Rob F on 2009-10-23, 21:17:07 (125.237.230.11)
Hi, while I haven't tried that recipe I have made interconnects using the Duelund and it is very good. You may well find that this isn't workable as a braid because of its rectangular cross section. .......

8: Cable Asylum, rf termination of power cords (0.00)
Posted by Rob F on 2005-02-09, 12:33:13 (203.109.193.43)
Would anyone care to hazard a guess at the R/C values for terminating power cords? I suspect ideal values will vary due to the electrical characteristics of the cord and terminating impedance. But a .......

Hi Fmak, Yes I have connected the audio board to a star ground, however I haven't isolated the digital output socket from the chassis yet.I am also suspicious that the headphone socketwill also make a .......

Hi, The description by fmak of Allen's player with level 2 mod's is interesting. I own a VSE xb940 with level 2 mod's myself. I have also tidied up the grounding in the machine considerably by removin .......

Hi, On the assuption that you are using the C4S as the plate load it seems that you have insufficient voltage drop across it i.e. 2 volts! I don't have the specifics on the C4S, but I recall it uses 2 .......

Hi, Re the capacitance of solid state circuits- I think you need to also take into account the nature of the capacitance. With tubes the dialectric is a vacuum, with solid state it is silicon. I wonde .......

Hi, I'm afraid I cannot agree with your reasoning here. Wide bandwidth cap's are precisely what you do want when filtering a switching supply. The lower the impedance at high frequency the more noise .......

Hi, I don't know what Miles did but I have heard the very sound several times live from trumpets and Saxophones when playing at quiet levels. For further examples just listen to just about any Ben Web .......

I have heard that criticism about KOB many times and not just concerning the SACD versions. In fact what you are hearing is the spit inside the horns! This is an indication not of distortion but good .......

Hi, Might I suggest that the difference in transport sonics has as much to do with power supply and grounding issues than the quality of the bitstream? It is no stretch to suppose that a well built an .......

Hi, I absolutely agree with your statement that plastic insulators can be a problem (even teflon). However if you wish to use really thin foil as I do(.5 mil is far too thick in my opinion) there is l .......

Hi, I use the 3mm x .05mm ribbons from Vacuum State Electronics. VSE recommends either wrapping the ribbons with teflon tape or alternatively using a teflon strip to space the ribbons. Because I can't .......

Hi, As I recall the 34.9k resistor on the Tripath is a series resistor. This is not the load resistor seen by the Jensen, although the value of this resistor does affect the input impedence of the amp .......
