I did turn off dolby volume. Got a little louder. I haven't tuned to IFC in a while which I know has loud commercials.... kept the range at narrow since every other one is stupidly quiet.. ::: TOPIC:: .......

The presets are fun, but the Tone controls are quite a bit better than the presets, so are the electronic treble and bass and balance controls. I will say the analogue controls are finer and more nuan .......

The older onkyo TX series stereo receivers are available on Ebay all the time. They are pretty good receivers. In fact i own one. Its built like tank unlike the yamaha surround receiver i had. ::: TOP .......

yeah ive tried amazon uk got a german cd almost as soon as it was releasd, it took several monts till the same cd showed up in the us amazon. canadas amazon however can charge crazy prices for stuff, .......

The NK900 is less bass oriented than the 890 and the 2000 its almost flat in that regard, or at least to my ears. The next to try is the NK2000 and the 2030, i had the 780 but they broke (sadface) :: .......

I love 70's vintage but I am more into the 80's early 90's gear. there was some nice Middle of the line and high end gear in those eras too not everything was rack stereo junk. I like the sounds of D .......

Without protools and similar programs entire subgenres of music wouldn't exist. You can't do sidechain compression (Ducking the kick) without similar software. or what i mean to say economicly or prac .......

7 years is good for a CD player my denon player is 17 years old and it works great. Doesn't like Burned discs but that is pretty common. Most people didn't burn Music CD's in 1996. No napster back the .......

My onkyo is a reveiver, I don't know about high current I highly doubt it, but since my Sony SSB-3000 speakers are 88Db and I have more than the usual 50WPC. I can get a pretty good bass response with .......

My onkyo puts out about 120 watts @ 4 ohms and 80w/2 channels at 8 ohms. Never owned a good 4 ohm speaker. Most I see are 8 ohms. .......

Some higher end speakers tend to fall apart on non audiophile material or they reproduce everything in an overly bright manner. Bowers and wilkins is guilty of this. Unless you have a warm amplifier. .......

the jbl and b&w speakers were like lasers in the treble area, the low end pioneers and the klipsch ikons seemed to disperse the sound in a much more pleasing way, the same thing with the sony ssb seri .......

The placement of the front peakers for 5.1 and higher is the same as for 2 channel stereo, you should gt the same sweet spot and imaging as you did before you added the centre and rears. Most 2 channe .......

Funny is that I played Violin in high school and I prefer folk and bluegrass and contemorized show tunes to traditional classical. Jazz I like but I don't go out of my way to persue more of it, I pref .......

I agree with duke... For some reason big speakers sound much better in my room than little ones. I think I'll get rid of my Sony SSB-3000's though they sound dull compared to my other speakers... ::: .......

Anything EPI made.. My EPI Model 70 Series III's (made by harman) sound better than many of similar bookshelf speakers I have listened to, and are pretty sensitive and go pretty low for a compact stan .......

Funny thing is that nothing that I have played through the speakers sounds bad. Some amps sound warmer on the speakers some are more neutral. My 10Wpc masterwork receiver has a warm sound to it due to .......

anybody ever had any problems with synergy when mixing different generations of kit? I have a mix of something from every era no earlier than the 70s and to be honest the gear gets along quite well. .......

The deonon sounds a bit warmer than the sony. both players are good and the denon has a headphone jack which the sony does not and it plays CDs that the sony won't play correctly without skipping. no .......

A lot of high end gear falls apart on dynamicly demanding material that isnt the typical audiophile show-off material. I test everthing i buy with demanding stuff to look for any trouble in producing .......

I just got a Denon DCM-50 CD changer for $10.00 works like new no remote but I can get the codes for it. The mechanism was really loud at first because somone had moved it with a CD in it, a steely da .......

Vintage amps Are great too, but tubed amps often need a lot of TLC when they are 30-40 years old and so do most of the op of the line SOLID STATE equipment from Sansui, Rotel and Krell. The new Mid-fi .......

I only wondered since a lot of mid-fi speakers from some time ago seem to have small magnets and low wattages listed them (cabinet says otherwise) and they sound quite good and can hold thier own with .......
