I think that the V140 may have a solid state input stage, while the VT series originally used tubes for that stage, although I'm guessing from hazy memory here. Certainly worth a call to ARC to see if .......

QXR's signal is pretty good, although they do have to compress at times on the big peaks; for smaller-scale works it's very good. Their live broadcasts are excellent (Met Opera, artists in residence s .......

Well, I'm using it now, and while I really have not heard much in the way of differences in digital interconnects that I would classify as major, I will note that my overall impression with this cable .......

My preference in my JA80s has been the Telefunkens; I used Mullards and Nationals for a while with both small signal tubes, and while the Mullards seemed a little punchier I far preferred the richer a .......

I have both currently in my system, as well as NBS Omega. I'll probably sell the Valhalla at some point and replace it with either Compass Lake or NBS Omega, both of which I'd rate just a little more .......

I agree with pctower, the Audio Logic DAC will let you forget about the merry-go-round and enjoy the music. It's a bargain at its list price, and a steal at the used prices it goes for. .......

Actually, my system is all tubed as well. I really do like the detail of the Q-F a lot, but prefer the Valhalla (and HMS) over it for the reasons you cited in your post (also why I prefer the Siltech .......

I agree with this approach if you like the Quattro-Fil, which is a fine cable. I sold the 1 meter pair for $700 on A-Gon, and my 2 meter pair for $850 to a gentleman who is having me send it to Nordos .......

I own an older pair of JA80s, very similar circuitry, just more tubes and power. Quite frankly, almost anything will beat the stock 6550s, if they're anything like the GE 6550s that came with mine bac .......

I used to use Nordost Quattro-Fil, found it to be very detailed but a bit thin for my tastes and ultimately replaced it with Valhalla, which really brought the music to life in comparison in my system .......

Actually, although it can be overdone, certain types of ferrites can make a positive improvement in a speaker cable. My cables, designed and made for me by a member of our audio society, use ferrites .......

Thanks for your reply. I too had a small ground loop with my JP80 being my main suspect; floating the ground on the LP2 (I plug it right into the wall) has eliminated that to the same extent you seem .......

I use a Purcell between a Forsell transport and an Audio Logic 2400 DAC, a true 24/96 DAC. Improvements are much more harmonic richness, subjectively deeper bass (but not by much--maybe more bass rath .......

Don't know about Mikey, but I think the Mahler 5 is Telarc's best SACD to date. Enormous dynamics, very natural sound and a fine performance. .......

I agree with mikel, on my table with a Graham 2.2 it seems to be best just below parallel with the record. The Benz Ruby I had before this was quite a bit more sensitive to changes in VTA than the RSP .......

Its certainly a good idea, but I doubt they'd do that, as the industry has already dropped the SPARS code on CDs. Shame, because it would be useful information for the very segment SACD was originally .......

Not sure if they're the culprit, but the old Columbia recordings which Sony chose to release in SACD format are, to a large extent, bright recordings to begin with (why I was not enthralled with many .......

As an owner of a 777 who had it modified, I agree it's a steal at that price (I got one for a little less than that a year ago) and you'd have to spend a good deal more to better it on redbook. Best t .......

Don't be so quick to dismiss the SACD medium on one listen. I have both a modified SCD 777ES (tubed Audio Logic output stage added to bypass the Sony's, which makes a big difference over the stock uni .......

I second the Telarc Mahler 5 and the Sony Midori discs. Also, try the Sony Joshua Bell/Bernstein disc, the Telarc Berlioz "Symphonie Fantastique", the Channel disc with various pieces for cello and or .......

Actually, there are some DACs that, given a DSD digital interface, can decode a DSD signal--the Audio Logic 2400, for example, and the dCS gear. Problem is that there is no universally accepted interf .......

With respect to the two-channel version, I was surprised how "hot" the mix was in the highs. Typical case of the closer you get to the master tape, the stronger the possibility that you might not like .......

I agree with Mikel on this one. I had a tubed output stage added to my 777ES by Jerry Ozment of Audio Logic about a year ago because, while the superiority of SACD over CD was apparent when you played .......
