Magnepan claims they are important so the speakers do not resonate identically. I have never heard a pair with them removed but I suspect it must matter because they wouldn't have done it otherwise. Y .......

For the record I never drilled out a rivet to remove a button, but if it's your intention to rebuild the speaker by yourself then yes, you will have to do this, otherwise you won't get the wire that r .......

Just to be clear, exactly what model do you own? The IIIa came out around 86-87 and before that the "III" consisted of 3 different variants (in about as many years) all of which are quite different. S .......

Yes, they were known for their tuners and yes, not every sansui product is great. Like anything you need to do your homework. I am not sure about operation but I have heard many of their amps operated .......

Avoid the Classe CA-200 why? My friend owned that amp when I owned my Sonographe many years ago and I borrowed it for lengthy comparison. The net result was that I preferred the Sono with the speakers .......

The difference should be pretty apparent, however the room could be effecting things. Next time you try it tip them back as well. Put about 3 dvd cases under the front of each leg and see if that does .......

The types of delam or the tweeter failure? Delam is based mostly upon exposure to moisture and coldness. Cold dampness is the worst and if you mix in sea air maggies can delam in as little as 3 years. .......

I only ever saw one I attributed to thermal damage, and that was because the driver was green(ish) and that means delam and when they delam the wires never oxidize and break. They turn an amber red co .......

I said it's my belief most fail from oxidation. When they are deliberately ruined it happens too fast and the wire is simply too fine for anything surrounding it to get damaged. Don't forget too that .......

The 1.7 uses more like a shared series, it isn't nearly as clean as what got used on the SMGa. Every model I have adapted the SMGa XO to does come in around 92 dbl, regardless of what they were before .......

Modded every 3 from the IIIa to the 3.6 winds up nearly identical. That said there will be very slight (audible) differences because the drivers are not "laid" (wired with the voice coil wires) exactl .......

I'm not sure that matters. Burlap has a marked tendency to absorb a lot of moisture and you keep anything damp long enough it's going to go bad. I wouldn't use it, especially with all the nicer altern .......

I found that having a wooden bass on the floor with no spikes hurts the bass. (that's bass not bass :^ ) It appears the low end kind of sucks into the floor too easily. Dayton speaker spikes from part .......

They are very bass capable. If you're not getting it it may be because the room is "soft". If it's "hollow bottomed" (there's a room under it) or the walls are not especially thick or well insulated .......

They use MDF too. Part of the problem with maggie modding IMHO for many years was people applied that logic to the problem and it didn't produce optimal results because the situation is unique and req .......

That was incorrect and as you saw I put my original up instead. Milloxane was never the adhesive, 3M 77 is. But since it's not a permanent adhesive :^ ) they coat it with milloxane which is a PVC type .......

Price - Fed is by far the most cost effective. If you print your own slips and drop the stuff off at a fed ex kinkos location it's very reasonable, and if the stuff is under 75 pounds you can send it .......

Ribbons fatigue. If you lay the speaker flat the ribbon should also be flat if you inspect it. If instead you see sagging between the points where it attaches to the sides then it was essentially shot .......

My guess is because the 90's is when they would have really seen the numbers start to increase of those coming back for "rehab" and it's easier to unscrew them to rewire the drivers than drill out a r .......

I've been pointing this out for some time. In the "old days" the buttons were attached with rivets, and I have yet to see a case of one of them stretching the wires like this, or deforming the mylar. .......

What you are describing was an effect of poor synergy and had nothing to do with the power abilities of the amps in question. I've heard 40 watt amps that sound better than 200 watt ones too. You also .......

Greg was likely correct, while they may be delaminating that almost never effects the sound, even when extreme. So when you sit there and say "it doesn't sound right" in almost every case it's because .......

Ricky is correct, changes that big will alter it. Buy this 30uF obbligato Instead of the dynamicap (which is 6 uF) buy this. It is .8 high but that is not significant enough to make a serious differ .......

I can't argue that recommendation (especially reno hifi, Mark is a great guy) but it should be noted that the 150 and 350 are noticeably not as good sounding as the 250 is. The 250 is warmer, more rel .......
