Generally, software upsampling a=on a computer is better than hardware upsampling because of the additional computing resources available on a computer. I wouldn't let the OS do it though, as specialt .......

I already had an NAD M51 and a Topping D90 and compared the Holo directly to them both. The Holo does sound better, quieter, cleaner and it was clearly audible even to a novice. It wasn't a pride purc .......

This is flatly incorrect. The Holo May has one of the lowest distortion figures and best signal-to-noise measurements on the market. Clearly you just don't want to spend more for it. A DAC that is cap .......

I don't think screen sharing works on older macs. It doesn't on my late 2012 imac nor a 2011 air. That functionality was hardware-specific and you can google when it was introduced. .......

I am using HQPlayer to transcode (upscale) the files to DSD128. HQPlayer has the best delta-sigma modulators on the planet and they far exceed any upsampling in any silicon chip. Most modern DAC chips .......

Dude, cd's are 16 bit. There are no more bits to be had. Period. The peak extend flag in HDCD was very rearley used and that is the only reason to provide a rip that has more than 16 bits. HDCDs are 1 .......

The modulators that perform the conversion require significant computing resources to do it well. You would be much better served by doing PCM--> DSD in your computer first, then sending to a DSD dac. .......

I'm not aware of any lossy compression scheme that preserves high-sample rates. If you choose a lossy format such as AAC or MP3, the file is going to be re-sampled by whatever encoder you use to 44.1k .......

It isn't a limitation of the NAD, it is a requirement of the HDMI specification. While you would need a display to use the HDMI connection, you can still output up to 24/192 to the NAD via S/PDIF or U .......

Yes. If you are not connected to a computer via HDMI, that is probably the only way to use a blue-ray or DVD player to play back discs through HDMI into the M51. .......

I plan to do that once the firmware is upgraded to allow it. However, it only accepts PCM at this point, so the source needs to decimate and provide the data-stream at an accepted rate and bit depth. .......
