First, I agree the S.E.X. amp would be the better first Bottlehead project. Simpler to build, designed for upgrading/experimenting, provides the "functions" (not quite the same sound) of the Foreplay .......

Today I moved all PLLXO components inside my Paramours--all directly soldered in place. The hum is still there; maybe just a bit reduced. Switching to a first order filter cut the hum roughly in half. .......

I was hoping for the info in dB of voltage gain--for easy (rough) comparison to other amps (for a futire sub-woofer). Better still would be if somebody could explain to me how to calculate dB of volta .......

Almost every CD player's output will be more than enough to drive the Paramour's to full output. The input grid resistor can be replaced by an attenuator of the same value. One extra hole to drill in .......

Plate loading chokes are normally specified as providing x Henries of inductance up to y milliamps of DC current. I assume all is OK if one runs only y/2 milliamps through the choke. (Is that right?) .......

I have listened to both the FP (at all levels of tweaking) and the GG extensively. I prefer the stock GG to every FP I have heard. The GG is DEAD quiet. But more importantly, music through it sounds ( .......

Yes, sometimes, if you can invest lots of time and do not insist on great cosmetics. I build the Grounded Grid for $150 using the same components as supplied in the kit. It took me about four months .......
