After chasing the single driver, xo less dragon about 15-20 years ago, I fortunately ended up trying a pair of Altec 604's.... Yes, they are big, will need an XO, but there are many enclosures out the .......

I believe you are thinking about the *40 series of the vintage Yamaha receivers. I have owned a few of the *20 series and I do not recall when recapping them, having the NLA power packs that the *40 s .......

Ebay user "stinkiest"... he's outta Canada. I and others have ordered his foam, and it fits and as DaveV pointed out, it works. The seller sells in batches, so you have to check ebay from time to time .......

I would leave the inductors on the 19 XO's alone. Just change out the caps and resistors. Also, there's a ground mod that helps clean up the grounding issue on the XO's that is supposed to help things .......

I own a pair..... When paired up with the right amps and in the right room, they sound pretty good.... But on that note, I prefer my Altec 604's over the 19's, even though the 604's have their flaws t .......

I own the TU-8600DX, and have had a lot of fun rolling tubes in it... I came around to enjoying 807's ( with adapter), especially since I have quite a few pairs that need use! .......

You also need to look at the back of the cone ( woofers) and see the part number. Also on the hf drivers, you have to open them up to see exactly what diaphragm you have. You can go to the GPA website .......

Figured I would chime in ... I was an AT too, but NATTC was in P-cola for me. I eventually worked on ASW, after spending some time with radar and NAV/Com with F-14's. .......

I take it those cabinets are not ported? Mine were in some end table like cabinets and you opened up the swing out doors and they had a rectangular port 12"w X 2" X 1"d, there low end wasn't that bad, .......

I beg to differ...... immensely. Try an Altec 604 in a proper enclosure and try and tell e you are not hearing/feeling 40hz or lower with SET amplification. You have to be careful with some SET's and .......

That amp, with the 6v6's, will be great on your Altec's, especially in that size of room. You will need just to barely turn that amp up to get great sound! I'm quite fond of the 6v6 based amps, they' .......

With the dims you are describing you can work with, the 620A/B cabinet will fit just fine. Or if you want to go a little slimmer, you can go the MLTL route that Jay fisher & Stephaen did with theirs. .......

There is even a scaled down version of 7, for foreign markets... Also if you are in college, check to see if your school is in the MSDN, I got my copy (download) of pro for the cheap price of free.... .......

Since you all ready have the components minus the XO for 19's. I would try those but you could also bi-amp and use an active XO.... I have read some marvel at the transition and have never looked back .......

yes side 2 side as well.. kinda like a cross.. some would say you could never have enough, yet you have to account for the volume the braces would start to take up , especially if you went over bard. .......

I can tell you that the method I posted above is what is in my 620A cabs... very little give there.. I am sure it flexes at some freqs, but I am willing to bet you would have a hard time by figuring i .......

altec usually used 2x4's crossed braced diagonally on each panel. also they used 2x4's by cross bracing the front & back panels and vertically for the top & bottom. later, -chris .......

You should wait to see if you will want to get the 802-8g diaphragms, or other cone work if needed... they re-charge your magnets for free.... I went to Altec after owning some Klipschs.. never heard .......

Just what sounds good..I came from the school of using the same speakers for all three front channels, L/C/R....This keeps things a lot simpler...If you are picky though, I am one of the ones that can .......

sounds like you woofer cab is a 816VIX.....the bass will not ever get super low in those cabs....these cabs were more for low mid fill.... the specs indicate response down to ~65hz, with an Altec 515. .......
