Hi, former Musical Fidelity tech here. I own an A300 and find it absolutely sublime with my vintage Maggie SMGa's. IMO it's truly worth repairing if it's not output devices, and likely what you'll fin .......

Which is why I bypass the fuse AND fuse holder altogether in my Maggie SMGa's. Can never go back, the sound improvement is too important, but I must also be very aware at all times that my tweeters ha .......

There is an easier way: (Never try to measure a power amp without a load, if its oscillating you would never know, and most cheap meters would just go wonky if an amp was oscillating). Power off amps .......

Scratch that: looking at the TriVista Power Amp schematic, there are NO TUBES. Sorry about that. I do know that the Trivista 21 DAC had 4 5703WB tubes in the output stage. Not sure if any of the other .......

Sounds like the disc rotation motor (or its drive IC) has weakened, or there is resistance in the wiring, etc., and so it is not spinning up the disc fast enough to have the TOC (table of contents) re .......

I have owned a Sony TA-4650 VFET amp since the late 80's and always loved it but until I recapped AND replaced the bias diodes and biased it in accordance with Sony, it sounded a bit thin and anemic. .......

Great unit, but the preamp stage uses the ubiquitous NE5534 Opamps that sound bright and glassy. In fact I always preferred the MA6100 (MAC1900 receiver w/same amp circuit) smoother discrete transisto .......

Here at Trew Audio, we recommend Quantegy 480 for Nagra IV-S and 4.2 models. We've had problems rebiasing IV-S's for Quantegy 499 and getting Record Distortion within spec. We're a hugely popular Nag .......
