The copy says that the wire is "silver plated", which I expect will sound like poo, but I frequently plunge myself into disasters hoping for miracles. An "entry level" turntable cable is $400. Please .......

Thank you for your kind response! I'm a pretty experienced cable solderer but the tiny size of the connector is daunting. Evil Amazon has tonearm connectors, gold-plated brass in teflon (!) for twenty .......

That is what I was thinking, but my original turntable had a bad hum problem too, and I just unplugged everything there and its hum reduced, so it might be something on this side somehow. .......

Well, I fixed it. How? By moving it and the preamp over to the other end of the room. Now it's quiet as a tomb. So now I have to decide whether to leave it there (forty feet of cable) or step by step .......

In order for shrink wrap to warp a record it would have to get past the stiff cardboard jacket. All the still-sealed records I've see have been pretty darn flat. .......

Alls I can tell you is that I bought the Ortofon Blue and I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Harsh upper midrange. I bought the Nagaoka and found it to be very musical. .......

My long-time turntable has been a Thorens 145 (160 with auto-lift). It has one of those little bitty "Dual" labelled Ortofon cartridges. I love it to death. The tonal balance is just perfect. It hums .......

If people choose record mats because the material is similar to that in an LP, why not just use an LP? You'd have to cut the rim off. The label recess is kind of bogus because the label isn't glued on .......

It's there, but do people really hear it? Or does the stylus just sweep it away? I do wash my records, because dust plus atmospheric goo gluing it in place is probably problematic. Especially the goo .......

I think that dust on records is overconcerned, unless of course you have very dusty records. I have more trouble with manufacturing defects, bubbles in the vinyl, bumps, stuff like that. .......

Alls I know is that I throw out all mt polyethylene MHS sleeves. Polyethylene outgasses a sticky goo. You can see the streaks of deposits on some of the records, probably something about the way that .......

I would guess -- and most of the posts in AA are guesses -- that the main problem is to find an identical woofer. There are always people in ebay parting out speakers. It might take a while but sooner .......

You kinda want the line stage to not flip the polarity of the signal, so if you're using active devices that invert polarity, you might have to use two in series to flip the polarity back. Thus a ton .......

Huh. I usually take the poly -out- of speakers and replace it with good old Fiberglass, to tighten the bass. I saw somewhere once long ago some scientist state that polyfil did almost nothing. Huh. : .......

I tweaked a pair of these once, and one of the things I did was lower the crossover frequency, figuring that the sonic slowness was owing to the heavy woofer being responsible for a range that was too .......
