As long as the gain out of your tone-control preamp isn't too much for your main preamps tape ins with the Volume control at max. Either way you're adding a lot of extra gain stages, and that won't do .......

Looked around but can't locate a source for button bases. So take a couple junk tubes and break them; you will usually end up with the base and pin connectors intact. Clean them up and you have usable .......

Not Vandys, unfortunately, these were DIY, but they do blend seamlessly in 2-channel setup. My main concern was whether the Parasound 1500 was a suitable replacement for the aging Adcom? Any thoughts? .......

I've never seen an adapter that goes from spades to pins, but Monster does sell their universal screw-on pin connectors separately. You could attach these to your spades using an appropriately sized b .......

For any particular tester, you need to test a LARGE group of (supposedly) identical tubes at various bias settings. Establish your own bell curve that comes close to the manufacturers "bogey" values, .......

Outboard CD recorders generally do a better job of producing CDs, part of which is because the inside of a computer isn't the best environment for making dubs. However, for transferring older cassette .......

Do you NEED matched pairs? Probably not, but some circuits work better if they are. It's usually more important that each tube have matched sides, IMHO. The 6H23pi-EB seems to be an excellent tube for .......

This is from memory, and it's been a while, and it wasn't even my system, but if memory is correct the first two sets are for phono stage, the third set linestage, and I believe the linestage does off .......

I've run them PP with 585V on the plates for several months without a problem, but even that's pushing it a bit. They probably won't last as long as NOS TungSol or GE, but the price is low enough that .......

Ethan, You certainly can't go wrong with either of these tubes. But if you want a MUCH less costly alternative, you can try the older coke-bottle GE 6550A. I've always been a fan of this tube in vinta .......

Yeah they might sound different; then again they might not. The number of 'getters' used in the tubes' construction doesn't really affect the "sound" of the tube, except where it's used to help determ .......

Clicker, From your description it sounds like your tube socket contacts have spread due to the repeated removal/insertion of the tubes. You can usually tighten the contacts by lightly bending them tog .......
